Game HEREFORD 1-1 CHORLEY 🏟 Edgar Street, Hereford 🏆 National League North ⏰ 3:00pm 📅 Saturday 5th January 2019 —————————————— For first game of the year, I headed to Hereford, a team that I’ve always looked out for since the folding of Hereford United. I had only visited Edgar Street once before, when Newport County won 2-0 in a friendly in July 2018. In today’s game however, Hereford were taking on top of the league Chorley in a game that looked very much against them on paper. After an uninspired start against an organised Chorley side, the Bulls were able to make it to half time with the scores level at 0-0, but struggled to make the most of what opportunities they had. Chorley took the lead at 58 minutes through a Josh O’Keefe volley and were able to retain dominance of the match until the sending off of their substitute Louis Almond in the 82nd minute, for what looked like an off the ball incident. Hereford then began to press and after the backfiring of some time-wasting tactics, Chorley conceded a 96th minute screamer from man of the match Josh Gowling, followed by mass celebration from all the Hereford fans around the ground. After the game was over, something of a melee had taken place among the players and staff of both teams, involving what looked like one of the staff throwing water over a photographer and Chorley’s classy number 10 giving his middle-finger to the fans here in the Merton Stand. A dramatic end to a dramatic game, which reminded me of just how manic non-league football can be, I’ll be sure to head back whenever possible! —————————————— Teams: Hereford: Yates, Thomas, Greenslade, Dinsley (Richards,46), Cullinane-Liburd (C), Gowling, Wharton (O’Sullivan,85), Owen-Evans, Finn (Reffell,65), Roberts, Symons Chorley: Urwin, Challoner, Blakeman, Teague (C), Baines, Meppen-Walter, A. Newby (Cottrell,76), O’Keefe, Carver (Hooper,90+4), Wilson (Almond,73), E. Newby —————————————— Home Goals: Gowling,90+6 Away Goals: O’Keefe,58 —————————————— Attendance: 2,168 (140 away) ——————————————
