INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (IDEVAW 2018) The values in our world are depleting everyday and women are primary victims. Sexual abuse is no longer a rare occurrence and sadly, any one can be raped now- from the oldest woman to the tiniest baby. The newspapers, TV screens, social media and the entirety of the criminal justice system in Nigeria have been greeted harshly with news of rape and sexual abuse on women on an abnormally regular rate. This must be addressed, and soon too. Over the years, many organizations have focused on trying to heal a woman or girl-child who has already been raped. The focus soon shifted to preventionary measures against rape via advocacy and punishment of offenders. But who comes to the aid of a girl on a dark lonely street, about to be raped by a stranger or even an uncle? She-defence is a project aimed at teaching women how to fight when they are about to be abused! Through this program, the following will be achieved: - Reduced rape cases - Punishment of more sexual abusers and assaulters according to the law. Highlights of the Program: - How women can defend themselves against a rapist. - How to fight an armed rapist. - Exposition of the law of Nigeria relating to self-defence. - How to call for immediate help and get the attention of security operatives. The resource persons for this program are persons who have made a mark in fitness and security in Uyo. @eno_blvc is a fitness expert and a certified security personnel. He has been in the security sector for close to 7 years and he is committed to a safer and saner society. Mia Poga is a woman who has dedicated her life to bringing up young girls to defend themselves physically. She is a fitness expert. This time, it's coming to Uyo. Venue: University of Uyo Mini Stadium, Town Campus, Uyo, Nigeria. Time: 6:30 in the morning Date: 30th November, 2018. Dress code: What you wear to the gym. For more enquiries or to support/donate to this course, reach the Projects Lead on WhatsApp on +234 813 885 8571 Tag a woman or girl you love. She might need this for the dark days. #abuse
