Going to remote areas has it's perks, but being able to keep up with social media and messages certainly ain't one of them! For the past 6 weeks I've been exploring several different forests in Ecuador, with the trip to last reserve being the icing on the cake. The impressively unique ecosystem within Reserva Río Manduriacu is a treasure trove of novel species waiting to be discovered! @biodiversitygroup has been conducting biodiversity discovery expeditions here for the past 3 years and every year offers us something new and exciting. While I can't announce anything right now, we have some exciting findings to announce from our latest expedition in the coming months. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For now, I want to share with you some of the known species we encounter there, like this Pinocchio Rainfrog (Pristimantis appendiculatus). How insane is it that one of the most common species in Manduriacu is this epic, super variable frog replete with horny protrusions and crazy beautiful eyes! This individual exhibited the most yellow out of any we found and was delightfully cooperative to photograph at our makeshift camp ~2000m up a never before surveyed mountain range. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hang around for tons of interesting shots of orchids that will blow your mind, rarely seen bugs and bugs, and of course more herp portraits!
