Grilled tri-tip that was marinated in a garlic and Calabrian chili butter sauce. Served it with avocado pesto and shaved asparagus. Everything involved in this meal is from California and that makes me happy. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”Camera: @nikonusa D850 Lens: Nikon 50 mm 1.8macro β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” #asparagus

Going back to work today after a perfect Easter break full of wall to wa" at Wapping Pier, London - 2028615359419312722

Tuesday 23rd April 2019 . . St George’s Day . . Going back to work today after a perfect Easter break full of wall to wall sunshine and blue skies could potentially have been quite difficult - that is, if it hadn’t been the official start of the British asparagus season. . . Running from today until the summer solstice on 21st June it is the time when British asparagus is at its best. Your stalks should be plump and firm while your tips should be tightly closed. Your colour can be green, purple or white depending on the variety (but shouldn’t appear faded) and ideally if buying β€˜designer’ asparagus (ie.not from a supermarket) it should be stored & offered standing upright in a little cold fresh water. . . Here are some fascinatingly useless facts about asparagus: . . British asparagus can grow 10cm in one day. . . Asparagus can help cure hangovers and protect the liver against toxins. . . Asparagus can improve your libido. . . Eating asparagus promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine and can help reduce bloating. . . Asparagus contains vitamin K which is essential for healthy clotting. . . Asparagus is a rich source of Vitamin C which boosts your immune system . . Asparagus is a mild diuretic and can help detoxify the body. . . White asparagus is the same as green asparagus but is grown in the dark to prevent chlorophyll production and therefore this prevents it becoming green. . . White asparagus has a more delicate slightly milder taste and a softer texture and is generally thicker than green. . . In Germany white asparagus (called spargel) is so popular it has its own festival called spargelzeit. . . The official Latin name for asparagus is asparagus offincinalis. . . There is no asparagus emoji . . In fact there is so much to say about asparagus that if you’ll indulge me I’m going to keep the rest back and give out more information as the season progresses. . . Happy asparagus season to you! . . #asparagus
