How patient are you with yourself? . One of the difficulties of being human is that we naturally want things instantly. It takes time and life experience to learn that “Patience is a virtue”. I often get really frustrated with myself when I react strongly to something and my coping skills don’t make me feel better instantly. I start to get sucked into the negative vortex of thinking that maybe my skills don’t really work or that I’m not capable of using them very well. I’m unwilling to be patient. . A hard lesson I’ve had to learn and I keep re-learning is that pain in life is inevitable and coping skills are not meant to make me feel better, at least not right away. The goal of coping skills is to keep me from making a situation worse, and to help me to get back to my baseline more quickly. The more I practice them, the better I will get. . Most of us can agree that (for example) it would be ludicrous to expect someone who has never played baseball before to be a star baseball player after one practice session, or even after a few months. Even though it seems obvious how unrealistic that expectation would be, we have a hard time realizing that about ourselves. . Remember that change is hard, and the longer we have behaved in a particular way, the more work it is to undo that habit. . So, cut yourself some slack! Celebrate the small wins because even though they may not feel like they are particularly significant in the moment, a bunch of small wins over time add up to become meaningful and obvious change. . You can do it! Don’t give up 😊 —————————— Moto leggings made by me with materials from @joann_stores Metallic blue pleather from the @yayahan cosplay fabrics collection
