My name is Matthew Brennan, I killed my bank account, Prepare to die because it's a brand new #twothangs painting! Two Thangs paintings are made in collaboration with all of the hundreds of people who come to me with their two pieces of pop culture. Because of this, not only are they diverse in subject, their diverse in tone and concept! This was the first painting I have done where the tone was whimsical, adventurous and sentimental. It was a really fun atmosphere to adapt too and try and capture. It's the #princessbride and #stars (or #constellations). It also marks the second time #andrethegiant has appeared in a painting. Love that guy!
As I figure out what this little business of mine looks like and what my future as a creative, artist, maker, and small business, looks like, the one constant, driving force is that I love to sew. I’ve dabbled in a lot of things, and spent many hours working on a variety of skills, but I’ve always loved sewing. - I remember during the one summer I was a counselor a residential camp counselor and I only had 24 hours off each week, I would drive home to see my family, and I would sew. I was sitting in my parents’ dining room working on a dress when my dad came in and asked why I didn’t just relax when I came home, and I told him that this was relaxing for me. This was how I wanted to spend my time recharging to be excited again on Sunday afternoon for 12 new preteens that would be my responsibility for the next week. - I’m still figuring out a lot of things in this process, but what I’m certain won’t change is that I love what I am making and I am so excited to share that. - One of the things I love the most about sewing these pieces is that each moment I spent working on the piece is recorded in the stitches. You can see the care and thought right on the front of the piece. I love sewing clothes and all sorts of other things, but in those pieces, the work is hidden from view. Here you can see every stitch, every moment, and every thought. It’s all been recorded right there for you in my own hand. - Don’t forget, I have just a few spots open right for a handful of custom pieces, so if you want a piece of your own that was sewn with love and completed with a little happy dance, head over to the link in my profile!
