Happy FRIDAY! 💃 As I promised, today's book is a companion book for the Ada Lovelace picture book I posted yesterday. Now, full disclosure, this book isn't EXACTLY about Ada Lovelace. In fact, super full disclosure, I just assumed that it was because of the name, but there's no official that this character is based on the historical figure in any way. 😬That being said, Ada Lace is a super cool little girl who is totally into STEM, and Ada Lovelace was, too! So we're gonna roll with it. 💪 Ada Lace is kind of bummed. She's just moved to San Francisco from West Virginia, leaving her best friend and everything familiar behind. On top of that, her leg's in a cast and her mom has to leave for Barcelona for work. So, no friends, no mom, and no (working) right leg. 😕 But then Nina comes along, a chipper, dreamy little girl who lives nearby, and things start to pick up. Especially when they decide to investigate a neighborhood mystery - a missing puppy! Using their creativity, smarts, and of course STEM techniques, will Nina and Ada solve the mystery? Gotta read it to find out! 😋 This one is aimed at 6-10 year olds, but I am absolutely going to be reading this with my 5yo and I think she will love it! It's a series, too, so I'm especially excited to read the rest! 💙 Oh, and let me not neglect to leave a note on the pretty awesome author here, too. @thespacegal has a Master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, she's Emmy-nominated science TV host - she's featured as a correspondent on Bill Nye Saves the World and an Executive Producer and host of FOX's Xploration Outer Space. Oh and she's given a few TED talks. #nbd 💪 Stay tuned tomorrow for one more Ada Lovelace read! . . . #adalace#adalovelace#inventor#scientist#stem#steminist#girlsinstem#stemforgirls#stemforkids#womeninstem#sciencerocks#builtbygirls#girlpower#girlscandoanything#raisingreaders#readingwithkids#raisingstronggirls #feminist #mystery#kidlit#booksforkids#bookworm#fortheloveofreading#readingismagic#bibliophile#igreads#bookstagrammer#thefutureisfemale#girlsreadtheworld
Meet Grace Cleveland, one of #FACEBC’s new 2019 directors and today’s #FierceFeministFriday! Grace is an articled student with Cleveland Doan LLP in #WhiteRock, a member of the @canadianbarassociation Women Lawyers Forum National Executive and an organizer of #LawNeedsFeminismBecause. Grace is dedicated to democratizing and diversifying education, whether that means taking conversations out of the classroom and onto the street, or advocating for law schools to incorporate mandatory #feminist legal education into the graduation requirements of every law student. She believes that teaching and learning are privileges afforded to too few, and she is committed to changing that. Her past roles as organizer of Edmonton and the University of Alberta’s first ever #LawNeedsFeminismBecause campaign (an international collection of feminist portraiture) and team lead of ReconciliAction YEG (a nationally recognized and award-winning law blog) have encouraged Grace to embrace the transformative potential that social media holds for anti-oppressive scholarship and activism. As a member of #FACEBC’s board of directors, Grace is excited to develop these ideas further and share them with the public!
