Happy Monday friends! I had several great conversations this weekend! People are shocked to learn that various issues that they experience are all tied to gut health. So why does matter? Because our intestinal microbiome is not only responsible for digestion, but is critical for SO many other functions... . ❤ absorption ❤ Digestion ❤ Insulin/blood sugar regulation ❤ Lipid metabolism ❤ #Immune function ❤ production and regulation (melatonin, serotonin, and others!) ❤ management ❤ Detoxification . . Do you know what is important for good ? . . ❤ Microbiome: the ratio of Good & Bad gut flora plays a huge role in the health of your gut. Prebiotics and can help shift the ratio. So can killing the bad stuff (antibiotics & steroids)! . ❤ , and Health Management: Being stressed/emotionally overwhelmed can cause an internal reaction that creates toxic build up in your stomach at the cellular level which leads to poor gut health. The gut-brain connection is real! 80% of , our happy hormone, is made in the gut. Look it up! . ❤ : , artificial sweeteners, toxins (found in many processed foods), etc feed the bad microbes in our gut and increase inflammation system wide in our bodies! . ❤ & : Our body works on repairing itself when we sleep. Lack of sleep raises cortisol levels and inflammation. Exercise can improve your good gut bacteria but over exercising can also raise cortisol levels. Regular activity helps to keep things moving to encourage effective elimination of waste and toxins! . ❤ & : When your immunity is low your body has a hard time fighting off infections & diseases. Good bacteria in the gut helps to boost your . 80% of your immune system actually resides in the gut. Some people naturally have a poor immune system which is all the more reason we need to make gut healthy a priority. So how can you protect or re-establish helpful bacteria and rebalance harmful bacteria: 🌱 Eat a diet rich in fiberous plants, fruits and vegetables 🌱 Consume prebiotic fiberous foods daily to “feed” the good microbes (Sli

What’s your go-to immune booster when you’re sick? You guys already know how I feel about black garlic. 😍 . Repost from @chris.rocchio_fit: - Crash course time🤓. Certain foods have been shown to boost your immune system, so I like to incorporate them regularly in my meal plan. -- 1️⃣Garlic👉🏼 Prebiotic to boost gut microbes (if eaten raw). Contains allicin & antioxidants. Fights infections. Kills pathogenic bacteria. Anti-inflammatory. Anti-cancer (several different types). Can lower severity of allergies. -- 2️⃣Red Bell Pepper👉🏼 Compared to citrus fruits, they contain twice as much vitamin C, which increases white blood cell production (key to fighting infections). Rich in beta-carotene (antioxidant), which enhances immune response. -- 3️⃣Turmeric+Black Pepper👉🏼 The active agent, curcumin (polyphenol), has anticancer properties, anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant, and tumor-fighting activities known in nutrition-speak as anti-angiogenesis. The active agent in the spice is a plant chemical, or polyphenol, called curcumin. The spice itself has low bioavailability, but adding black pepper enhances it by 1000x over. -- 4️⃣Green Tea👉🏼 Packed with flavonoids & EGCG, both powerful antioxidants. EGCG enhances immune function. Good source of the amino acid L-theanine, which may aid in the production of germ-fighting compounds in your T-cells. -- 5️⃣Probiotics👉🏼Live cultures in probiotic supplements & fermented foods stimulate the immune system, fight infections, ®ulate sleep when our microbiome is diverse and balanced. The microbiome affects the immune system in many ways. -- 6️⃣Almonds👉🏼 Rich in vitamin E, which is often overlooked but very important for a healthy immune system. It’s a fat-soluble vitamin, so fatty sources of it are optimal for absorption.
