Another blinding binding. But by whom? Arts and Crafts gilt decoration with typical roses and hearts. Interior wonderful too. I'd never heard of #etiennebosch but I think #keithharing may have come across him...Binding is similar to those of #gleesonwhite and #laurencehousman? Anybody know? Published by The Studio in 1911. @proust_ate_my_hamster? @gavin.wilson.cumbria? @thedamlibrarian ? #artsandcrafts#beautifulbooks #jessiemking #anniefrench#johnpcampbell#wgrahamrobertson
The beauty of books with pictorial wrap-around binding designs, just like those with fore-edge paintings hidden beneath their gilding, usually goes unnoticed on the shelf, which adds to the thrill of discovery. I don’t remember ever coming across a collection of these books and am wondering whether it would be possible to put together a catalogue. Would certainly be a fun exercise. This distinctive artwork is by the Glasgow School artist Jessie M. King, for the Collins’ Bumper Reward Book Edition of Lamb’s Tales From Shakespeare, from 1927.
