2 attori che adoro in stato di grazia, 1 regista pre-sputtanamento mediatico che tirava fuori un cult dopo l'altro, 1 storia fuori dagli schemi. Film che mi viene sempre in mente di lunedì . . . . #joelschumacher

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ TODAY in Black Film History CAR WASH Premiered October 15, 1976 New York City ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Based on the financial success of his debut film Cooley High the previous year, black director Michael Schultz found a secure place inside Hollywood’s major studios, which were struggling to survive once the early 1970s Blaxploitation cycle of films —aimed at urban audiences—began waning. Films with black casts needed a younger audience and some mainstream crossover appeal. Shultz’s second film, Car Wash, is a day-in-the-life of the owner and workers of the Dee-Luxe car wash in Los Angeles. The film depends on a large ensemble cast (of mostly unknowns, at the time) and several big stars in smaller roles to weave together converging stories in which the employees interact with each other and with a string of eccentric customers. Richard Pryor appears as Daddy Rich, head of the Church of Divine Economic Spirituality, George Carlin as a cab driver, Prof. Irwin Corey as a mad bomber, Ivan Dixon as an ex-con, Bill Duke as a Muslim black activist, Antonio Fargas as a sassy cross-dresser, The Pointer Sisters (in a variation of themselves) as The Wilson Sisters, and with Franklyn Ajaye, Garrett Morris, Tracy Reed, Clarence Muse, Leonard Jackson, Lauren Jones, Melanie Mayron, and Sully Boyar. The title song and soundtrack, provided by the Norman Whitfield produced soul-funk band, Rose Royce, went to the top of the charts and became one of the biggest hits of the disco era. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #joelschumacher
