There’s a lot of confusion when it comes down to ketogenic diets and building muscle. Here’s the thing, in order to build & repair muscle, your body requires amino acids, which are the building blocks of all your cells in your body. To give those muscle cells a rigid structure and a firm lining, your body requires essential fatty acids. These fatty acids also contribute to production of testosterone, vitamin D and cholesterol, all of which are essential for the repair of your muscles. If you look at the golden era of bodybuilding, carbs was not a part of their diet. Your body has no requirements for carbs whatsoever! Once you have become adapted to burning fats, which usually takes about a month, then you can start to incorporate carb refeeds once a week or every 2 weeks depending on your body fat levels, only for the sole purpose of replenishing glycogen levels and NOT to help build muscle. There was a study conducted which took 2 groups and they fed them a traditional high carb diet vs a ketogenic style diet with equal calories. What they found was that not only did the ketogenic group lose fat, but they put on more lean muscle mass than the high carbohydrate group. Fascinating, isnt it? . . . lifestyle

Officially down 45lbs since starting Keto in June! It’s almost unreal, 6 lbs until my big goal & we will see where I take it from there! Back in June I had a post op appointment and was appalled by my weight- it was a giant wake up call and decided I needed to take control & I’m so proud that I actually did something about it! And have stuck with it because I don’t feel deprived (except I haven’t found anything that comes close to cookie dough 🤣) #lowcarblifestyle

Remember that Blackberry Jam I made, a few posts ago? Well, I incorporated some into my Dark Chocolate Truffle Mix. 👩🏻‍🍳 . . 🍇🍫B L A C K B E R R Y DARK CHOC. TRUFFLES 🍫🍇 . . Ingredients: 1 cup of Heavy Cream 1 Whole Bar of Bakers Choc (100% Cacao) 1/3 Cup of Pyure (or the sweetener you like) 1 Tablespoon of my Blackberry Jam . . Directions: Bring Heavy Cream to Low Boil. Remove from heat. Chop Chocolate up. Add Pyure to the Heavy Cream. Stir until dissolved. Add chocolate. Stir until dissolved. If chocolate isn’t melting, return to heat for 30 seconds. But not long tho bcos things will burn quickly. Work without heat. Pour mixture into a bowl. Refrigerate for 2-3 hours. Scoop out with cookie scooper. Refrigerate again for 15 min. Roll in cocoa. Wala! . . The perfect “hold me over” snack for in between meals if you get the urge to eat. You can also use Coconut Cream if you are Dairy Free. 🙂👍 . .
