@carst.54net performing our “Progressions off the Rush” drill. This was filmed from our early morning session. This drill focuses on various attacks of the rush situations: 1. Shuffle: simulates an attacker cutting laterally. This forces the goalie to maintain his depth and angle while shuffling across the arc of the crease 2. T-Push: simulates a wide pass on a two man attack. The goalie is forced move on a path through the middle of the crease and beat the pass on their feet. 3. Butterfly-Full Recovery: simulates a shot on the ice to the weak side where the goalie is forced to recover for a potential shot threat from the dot lane. 4. Butterfly-Partial Recovery: again a shot to the weak side creates a tough rebound to his glove side with an immediate shot threat. The goalie must stay down and quickly recover for the 2nd shot. 5. Butterfly Slide: simulates a lateral pass with an immediate shot or one-timer threat. The goalie leads with their eyes, identifying this threat and pushes on a diagonal path to get on angle as quickly as possible. Great job Carsten! Even though it was an early wake up, Carsten was up to the task and was engaged right when he stepped on the ice! He is prepared for the @bluearmyhockey U16 games this weekend against the Iowa Wild AAA. And a shout out to @ronmaysgoaltending for the drill #mapgoaltending

Here is @hwelsch33 of our 18 Selects Tier performing a diagonal box drill which aligns with our weekly concept of lateral passes/lateral angles. The drill is designed to simulate various lateral plays through the progressions: 1. Shuffle simulates a lateral angle where the player is moving from east to west with the puck 2. T-Push simulates a lateral pass where we want the goalie to beat the pass on his feet. 3. Butterfly/full recovery simulates a save and rebound situation where the goalie must recover to the weak side in order to prepare for another shot. A couple key things to note in this analysis are: - Henry’s use of shoulder checks from his post in order to scan the ice for dangerous threats on Low-High Pass-outs. - Taking the correct path when moving laterally to maintain his angle (being centered and square) 3. Using his eyes to dictate the necessary distance and path to get to his spot. Henry did a great job and is a stud high school goalie for Lakeville South. #mapgoaltending

Here is a video analysis of Alex Timmons of our 16’s Tier performing a drill working on distorted tracking and lateral passes. This drill forces goalies to fight for sight lines through the proscreen, adjust for changes in the shots release, and beating passes on our feet. This links up with our theme of the week of lateral passes/lateral angles. Alex exhibits a lot of very strong habits, particularly in the pre-shot movements. The video also describes a couple areas many goalies have difficulty with, namely: 1. Bringing the stick in the passing lane when going post-post. (Little habits make a big difference) 2. Bringing in hands too early on shots to the body which causes difficult rebounds in the slot area instead of containing the rebound at the body. (The easiest save to make is the one we don’t have to) This was a very good rep by Alex. Who has been performing great all summer and progressing each week! #mapgoaltending

Week 2 of our Summer Program is complete! Our focus was Puck Tracking and Save Selection. Here are a couple drills we filmed during the week with analysis. 1. Ryan Arrigoni (13’s Tier) performs a drill where he is forced to rotate his head and eyes before tracking the shot. Thanks @thegoalieguild and Jan from their coaches symposium for the drill! It perfectly aligned with our weekly focus. Note Ryan’s great job tracking with his head slightly in front of the spine and chin and eyes directly over the puck and what a great job he does on the blocker side tracking the puck through the whole save sequence. 2. Carsen Musser (14’s Tier) focuses on a simulated rebound to the slot. This drill builds off the first drill and adds a degree of difficulty as the focus was to force the goalies to track from a tighter shot location and from a moving position. Carsen does a great job tracking down on the simulated first shot and then redirecting his head and eyes to the dangerous shot from the slot and has great habits of following the puck and executing the necessary save selection. Thank you to all our goalies and instructors for a great week! #mapgoaltending
