The cormorant population has drastically increased around the lake of Neuchâtel over the past 10 years. In the 1970s there were hardly any present - now there are several thousand. Apparently they are eating more fish than the current fishermen can catch and there have recently been calls for population control (culling/hunting). . From what I understand the introduction of the cormorants was completely natural... it just so happens that they are incredibly voracious and efficient fishers. At what point do humans have to intervene and protect their interests? In this case we’re talking about the livelihood of 30 fishermen. Does that justify culling? Switzerland is a small territory, so 30 is significant for a local area and thus shouldn’t be directly compared to larger countries. . Still, it makes me wonder at what point should we interfere. What are your thoughts? . This image taken a couple of years ago on Lake Neuchâtel. Regardless of their impact, I still love photographing this species. . . . . #marvelouz_animals
