TRAILER REVIEW: Though the action and CGI look pretty phenomenal. The acting seems a little stale. Borderline cheesy. Based on the trailer I'll give this movie a shot. Maybe it will prove me wrong. (3/5) stars for me. buff

FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD (2018) Directed by David Yates Stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterson, Dan Fogler, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp - After being revealed in the first film, Grindelwald escapes from prison and begins to round up a following in plans to destroy the non magic world and Newt Scamander must reunite with Tina and Jacob in order to protect Credence, who is the key to ultimate power. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so when Fantastic Beasts became a reality I enjoyed it quite a bit and to learn that J.K. Rowling was going to be writing all the screenplays for a five film series with David Yates, the director of the last 4 Harry Potter films directing all of them I could not have been more excited. While I still enjoyed the first film more, this movie does an excellent job of setting up future sequels and introducing new characters very well. Everything technical about this movie is great. The acting, the directing, the music, the VFX, and the cinematography are all great however, the main issue with the film is the story. This film doesn’t really have a plot that makes it its own film. It reunites characters all for reasons that have to do with the future. Everything the characters do in this film is trying to stop Grindelwald from starting the inevitable war between wizards and none of their motivations are for themselves, now. Nothing really happens that makes this film be its own, it’s just setting up things for future installments. Which is kind of a let down, but it sets up those things so so well. One thing, this film is already just as dark as the last two Harry Potter films. It already feels like a sense of doom in that Grindelwald is just as evil and cold as Voldemort. Which, introducing the terrific Johnny Depp and Jude Law who both give excellent performances as Grindelwald and a young Dumbledore. We get sweet Harry Potter nostalgia with lots of references, easter eggs, and that heartwarming score. The last 30 minutes of this film are absolutely phenomenal. Things that were mentioned earlier were explained perfectly, all the character’s choices were good and nothing felt forced, which could have CONTINUED IN COMMENTS
