The Mule โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Review: The Mule is like a shell of a good movie with not much inside. The concept is a different take on the drug dealing cartel films we get so often, but the vision isnโ€™t fully realized. Maybe Clint Eastwood is just more impatient and less detailed with his older age. The dialogue is pretty flat, and none of the characters have much to say besides Clint. Bradley Cooper and Michael Penaโ€™s talents were completely wasted, literally anyone could have played their roles. Every member of Earl Stoneโ€™s (Eastwood) family were the most god awful actors iโ€™ve ever had to watch. His daughter, niece and ex wife were just excruciatingly painful to watch every time they shared a scene. Andy Garcia was pretty great, the short time he was in the film. The plot although entertaining, just seemed to rush through so many details, which made every situation feel inauthentic. The DEA flip a cartel member with a few lies and not even the call of his lawyer, and have the guy snitching on everything without the cartel finding out, which is highly unlikely. The work just isnโ€™t put into the details. We get unexplained time jumps, DEA getting information with no explanation or effort shown on camera. This movie really only works because of Eastwoods charisma. Otherwise it would be an easy skip. Iโ€™ll tell you everything Eastwood is trying to say with this movie, in one sentence, โ€œfamily is most importantโ€.
