Did you know that 21.913 tons of garbage lands in our seas per year? And that everything that does not land in the garbage ends up in the ocean in one way or the other? As an oceanlover & proud ambassador of the Oceano Azul Foundation in Portugal which made the protection of our seas its main priority, I would like to warmly welcome you to join me in making every day Earth day! πŸŒπŸƒπŸ³ You can make a huge difference every day, for example by your choices what packaging you buy (and reducing the use of plastic bags, one-way coffee cups & plastic straws) & being mindful of where and how you dispose them to save our planet for the upcoming generations. This is just one of the tiny steps that you can take to make a huge positive impact on the environment! 🐟 Your kids will thank you for it! ❀ advocate

Skates and rays have their gills under their bodies, unlike their sharky cousins whose gills are located just behind their heads. So how do skates and rays breathe when they lay flat on the ocean floor? Seems like they would smoother their gills, right? These flat sharks have spiracles located just behind their eyes. The spiracle helps pass fresh, oxygenated water from above the ray down, through the gills. Some species of benthic sharks have spiracles as well! . . . πŸ“Έ By me @oceanforsharks #oceanadvocate
