Breastfeeding journey by @isabellaquesnel oh my look at that latch and hair.. 😍✨✨ • • • I had always wanted to breastfeed. For the connection, the convenience and the financial side of it. But 4 months before my Archie was born I witness my sister struggle with her breastfeeding journey. It was so difficult for her with tongue ties, tube feeding, exclusively expressing and bottle feeding all while figuring out everything else as a new mum. Her struggle went on for nearly 3 months. This made me anxious about how I was going to go. I tried not to let it stress me out but I just couldn’t help but worry. Our first latch- I was so exhausted from labour and delivery that I couldn’t hold Archie close to me, however I told my midwife that it was something I wanted to do as soon as possible so even before the obstetrician had finished she held Archie and I together so we could experience our first latch. It was lovely but a bit of a blur as to how it actually happened. Luckily we have so photos. Once we were back in our room the ward midwife that was coordinating that night jumped straight in trying to help but really made it more difficult. Luckily she got a page and had to rush off which gave me the chance to do it myself. I was really lucky, I have been surrounded by women breast feeding their babies for most of my life so I felt confident in the sense I knew what I had to do. It was just if the baby would cooperate and understand. We were so blessed to have a great start to our journey. My milk came in on our second night hard and fast thanks to the little guy cluster feeding (Hello 3rd and 4th underarm boobs). I had to use cold and hot compresses and massage and showering to relieve the pressure and pain under my arms from where the milk was overflowing the ducts and draining back. Once the milk came in it was all guns blazing. ** Continued in comments**

.⠀ CAFFEINE + SKIN GLOW⠀ ⠀ HOW DOES COFFEE AFFECT MY BODY?⠀ Caffeine stimulates the stress response in our body (think adrenaline and cortisol, the get out of danger hormones that speed everything up!). ⠀ ⠀ Great, if you’re in a balanced mind set and having a relaxed day⠀ .. but, if you’ve woken up feeling stressed or low on energy in need of the ‘hit’ - we should actually be avoiding coffee that day! ⠀ ⠀ If it’s regular feeling of unease, taking a break for a few weeks (for our body to balance it’s hormones and endocrine system again) is the best approach!⠀ ⠀ HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY SKIN + AGEING?⠀ when you’re in stress mode your body takes nutrients away from non vital processes like nourishing the skin, your hair, nails and reproductive system - and sends them to vital organs.⠀ ⠀ Over time this means our skin isn’t getting the nutrients it needs, contributing to dull skin, undernourished cells, slower healing rate, spots and increased rate of ageing (high cortisol breaks down collagen and elastin more rapidly over time)!⠀ ⠀ I’m not saying don’t indulge in your delicious coffee treat.. just take note of your body that day and if you’re in a relaxed state or not.. and if it’s been a long stressful period maybe try a daily Chai for a few weeks until you feel balanced 🥰⠀ .⠀ @jshealth also recommends having your coffee (or green tea) before 10am so it doesn’t disrupt your body’s circadian rhythm (think.. better sleep!).⠀ ⠀ See IG stories for my full video ❤️
