**DO YOU WANT TO SEE AN EXERCISE THAT EVERY PLAYER SHOULD BE DOING??** . 🤔🤔🤔The single leg squat is an exercise that can be progressed and regressed in a variety of ways. This is also known as the “pistol” in CrossFit gyms. With decreased ankle dorsiflexion range of motion being a commonality, here’s a great regression for players to perform! It’s helping with the following: . 1. Strengthening of the glute max and quadriceps in a single leg manner! Especially important for landing on one leg or pushing off during the throwing motion! ✅. . 2. Strengthening of the gluteus medius in a frontal plane manner! We don’t want to see that knee cave into a Valgus position. A stable lateral hip means good energy transfer from the leg to the trunk. ✅. . 3. Practicing of lumbo-pelvic neutrality. Players that lack strength or control in their hips and trunk will try and over extend to “tension hunt” due to their lack of stability. ✅. . 4. Ankle stabilization/range of motion while performing the movement. The ankle gets overlooked so much! If we don’t create an arch in the foot/layered on top of a stable ankle, then energy transfer and eccentric control goes down greatly! ✅. . You can see that these guys are controlling the declension of the movement all the way to the bottom and then exploding up. You can also see that we have increased the height of the surface that they are sitting too. We don’t want to see any “plopping” at the bottom! Once the get better, then we can start to lower the height more and more. Weights have also been added to the hands as a counterbalance tool which initiated the player to reach back with the hips instead of driving forward with the knee. Try this one out! 🔥🔥🔥. . therapist
