@optimize.physiotherapy You must learn how to stabilize well before you can express optimal mobility, strength, and power at your extremities ✔️ ↘️ Proximal = closer to midline Distal = Extemities • This is just how things work. Take a crane for example: • A crane must be anchored to the ground and have integrity through its base and structure so that the crane can move and load stuff at the end of it. • If it wasn’t achored well, or its inner structure wasn’t well stabilized, applying load at its ‘extremities’ wouldn’t be possible. ➡️ The body is the same way. It’s the reason why babies can not walk, lift, and throw stuff right away. They must learn how to stabilize their torso first before expressing mobility at their arms and legs. ➡️ This goes for anyone: You need to be able to stabilize efficiently through the right areas in order to express movement, strength, speed, and power through other areas. ➡️ The ability to control and stabilize your human chassis or frame is essential. Your ‘core’ is required to prevent or control unwanted movement so that you can produce the movement you want in other areas. ↪️ Training proximal stability is important. Disconnected/dysfunctional movement is often distally driven movement. Distal dominance occurs when there is a failure to appropriately stabilize at upstream regions during movement patterns. 🔑 Prioritizing the spine = prioritizing the chassis/frame of your human crane. This is where there must be INTEGRITY. ✅ Moving well should ultimately be reflexive, but sometimes it takes a few hardware and software updates to express it. Think proximal. ————————————————- #powerlifting
