40 for Jayne’s 40th Our beloved Jayne would have been celebrating her 40th today with us all. Sadly after a long and brave battle with multiple myeloma we lost her. In her honour and loving memory we want to give back by each getting 40 people to register as a stem cell donor. This means either prolonging or saving a life. How amazing is that? Please feel free to take the challenge to get people to sign up as well as registering yourself. Anthony Nolan enabled Jayne to receive stem cells so this is our way of saying thank you to this wonderful charity who need more people to register as donors. Could you save a life? If you are under 30 learn more about Anthony Nolan and signing up here: https://www.anthonynolan.org/apply-join-our-register Or if you are over 30 and under 41 Click the link to find out what’s involved and register with the British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR). https://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/british-bone-marrow-registry/how-can-i-help/ More about Jayne’s story Jayne was a very special women who I had the honour of having in my life. She fought an extraordinarily brave battle with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, for many years and through her lust for life defied the odds. Part of Jayne’s treatment included a stem cell transplant which prolonged her life. This extra time meant the world to Jayne and everyone who knew her. And it meant Jayne would spend a few precious days with her surrogate twins, carried and birthed by Jayne’s own twin, before she devastatingly left us. 5 years on we want to keep Jayne’s benevolent personality alive with 40 for Jayne’s 40th. If you can register and encourage friends and family to follow your lead, lives could be saved. Feel free to cut and paste if you want to take part. #standuptocancer

“This time last year, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At the start of the year, @bens_stuff was given a slim chance of survival… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After an incredible journey though, facing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and even a hip replacement, Ben managed to beat his cancer and wanted to get his life back on track. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When first coming to The DVCC, even walking down the stairs was a bonus for Ben. However, that wasn’t enough for him. After rebuilding his energy levels with every session, Ben’s strength has continued to grow to the point where he is building muscle, lifting weights and is now in the best shape of his entire life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ben is a real inspiration at The DVCC and has proved that despite all odds, it is never too late to turn things around.

Still missed and in my thoughts two years on 🙏 Thankful for everything that my mum gave me, think the words are better expressed in this song 🎵 Fittingly from a London band from her era (albeit North London 🙄): ‘Days’ The Kinks Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. I bless the light, I bless the light that lights on you believe me. And though you're gone, You're with me every single day, believe me. Days I'll remember all my life, Days when you can't see wrong from right. You took my life, But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me, But it's all right, Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me. I wish today could be tomorrow, The night is dark, It just brings sorrow anyway. Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. Days I'll remember all my life, Days when you can't see wrong from right. You took my life, But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me, But it's all right, Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me. Days. Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. I bless the light, I bless the light that shines on you believe me. And though you're gone, You're with me every single day, believe me. 🕯🌹💕 #standuptocancer

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. For those in California, like us, the poor air quality due to fires is a sobering reminder of our lung health. With a rate of incidence approaching 1 in 16 individuals, you probably know someone who has battled lung cancer. Now is a great time to reflect on the loved ones we've lost, and a wonderful opportunity to reach out to those who are living with lung cancer.

Even though the Oilers didn’t show up tonight it was still great to be able to support a special night; hockey fights cancer. At the beginning of the game they had a little girl, Ava, on the ice with cancer for the ceremonial puck drop and it brought me to tears. How someone so little and innocent had to deal with that and the stress I’m sure it put on her family. I couldn’t imagine. I’ve personally lost family and friends from cancer so it hits home. Made me realize how fortunate and lucky I am to be healthy and that’s something I’ll never take for granted. We all know someone who’s affected in one way or another by cancer and every little bit of donation helps towards finding a cure. 💜 #standuptocancer
