It’s almost in the US, one holiday I think we should definitely adopt in Australia. Giving thanks is something we should do more often, it’s all too easy to flow through taking people for granted and what we have for granted, our blessed lives we live in the western world. But I for one am going to celebrate thanksgiving on Thursday with my little tribe. SHOULD WE EAT MEAT? It’s the commonly understood thought that red meats are ‘bad’ for us, they have these harmful saturated fats, and that their consumption raises cholesterol, but have we been lead astray? ———————————————————————— Firstly, consuming cholesterol containing foods, like eggs for example, does not raise cholesterol. Yet our livers work effectively and in fact create cholesterol to be used in the body - cholesterol is needed for the immune system, hormone production, cell membranes and so much more (kind of important really). ———————————————————————— Secondly, avocados, olives and olive oil which are deemed as ‘healthy’ fats also contain saturated fat - but that’s not often talked about. You see, foods don’t just contain one type of fatty acid. When we eat wholefoods we are getting a variety of fats, minerals, starches, fibres, antioxidants, amino acids and so much more. God/Nature knows that we need all of these things for human health. ———————————————————————— If you choose to eat red meat and other animal products I must encourage you to opt for quality over quantity. There is a difference in nutritional quality and the quality of life the animals lived. Grass fed meat is higher in omega 3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation and provide benefits to the cardiovascular system. A palm size portion is all you need to compliment a plate thats loaded with different vegetables, starches and fats ✨
