When we practice asana, we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system by massaging the organs, improving circulation, relaxing muscles, and quieting the mind. Sarvangasana or Shoulder Stand, stimulates the vagus nerve most directly as it runs through the neck. The vagus nerve literally activates the parasympathetic nervous system - the body’s “rest and digest” system that functions when the body is not experiencing stress. Insomnia plagues so many of us worldwide. Not only does it leave you feeling tired & lethargic, it also negatively affects your everyday function & life. Staying alert & focused at work, or even home becomes ever more challenging when your sleep patterns are continuously affected. Many people have found solace with a dedicated & calming yoga practice. Supported Shoulderstand, Salamba Sarvangasana, is often cited as a great aid for fighting insomnia, as well as the exhaustion that comes with it. Since this pose is an inversion, more blood is sent to the brain which helps to calm the mind & reduce fatigue. It also soothes the Nervous System, while improving the functioning of the thyroid & the parathyroid. It helps to relieve Asthmatic Symptoms, bronchitis & palpitations. It helps to open the chest area & increase lung capacity. All the organs of the body are upside down which relieves the pressure on the organs that sit in the lower abdomen, particularly the bowel, small intestines and reproductive & excretory organs, giving them space & creating a flushing effect. This flushing effect helps to improve function & flush out built up toxins. Whether you suffer from insomnia or just need to reduce fatigue, Supported Shoulderstand is an excellent pose to try. Besides its ability to ward off sleep issues and remove toxins, it is a great stretch for the shoulders & neck, and a perfect introduction to inversions if you are looking to expand your yoga practice. . . . . . . . . . . journey

With Day 2 of we get a bit closer to the sky.. well, at least my booty 🍑 does in this puppy pose!! 🐶😂 Its a great shoulder stretch that I like to practice quite often, so it was great seeing it in the line-up of this challenge 😊 I went to see dinosaurs 🦕🦖 today and also saw my basketball team win a super important match 🏀!!
