Arguably some of the best high-end food in the world is in right now but I’m just as into the classics. . Speaking of is home to a lot of classic foods. A few you must try when you visit Guadalajara are: . *Birria* Braised goat that’s served as a taco or stew (personal fave!) . *Torta Ahogada* A “drowned” sandwich (as in the bread is dunked in salsa) stuffed with pork that is insanely good! . *Pozole* The OG pork and hominy stew . *Carne En Su Jugo* Braised meat with beans, bacon, onion, and cilantro (a personal fave!) . *Tejuino* A low alcohol fermented masa drink that’s better than it sounds! . *Jericalla* The original Mexican flan with a custardy center and burnt top! . Have you had any of these?!?! Which are your faves??? . 📸 @borderfreetravels .

Nbd, just hanging with my new friend, legit charro Jesús! . I adore that in Guadalajara some of the best-know Mexican traditions - sombreros, the Mexican hat dance, mariachi music -come from here and they’re alive and well in a real (non-cheesy) way. . As a 🐎 lover, I’m partial to the charreadas or horse competitions, which are like the Mexican cousin of a rodeo. On the regular, generations of charros and escaramuzas (aka the female competitors) come together to one up each other in a series of defying challenges (including the anxiety-inducing “paso de la muerte” where a rider jumps between horses mid race 😱)!!! . We spent yesterday with local friends at the charreada and I was into it from the moment we arrived. From behind-the-scenes looks and (attempting) to learn to lasso to watching the nail-biting competitions while sipping Palomas and snacking on palomitas 🍿 with chili sauce, we packed it in. . On a scale of “meh” to “heck yes,” how much would you want to see a charreada IRL? . 📸 @borderfreetravels .

Market Stop . If you travel with me to , you should know this: if I pass a market, I must go in! Even if I don’t actually need anything, the food lover in me likes to just rifle through the produce and drool over the handmade foods. . . How about you? What’s your must-visit spot when you travel? . 🎶

I travel to learn. I travel to experience. I travel to live bigger. . This trip to has done all of that and more. I feel like I’ve gotten a masters in Mexico and made friends and memories along the way. . One memory I’ll have for a long while is that of in where we spent the day visiting the cemetery, getting our faces painted, and eating seasonal food. . 🎶

Back home in , one of the biggest celebrations is in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It’s full of color and music and seriously impressive, but even it didn’t prepare me for the celebrations down here in . . From the parade in Mexico City to the markets filled with seasonal flowers, the celebration has been going strong for a week. Here in Guadalajara seemingly the whole city was out in last night. There were traditional foods (pan de muertos, tamales, sugar skulls) for sale, people getting their faces painted, and one altar more impressive than the last. . 🎶

Early morning in the agave fields! . Sunrise hang with master jimador (agave harvester), Ismael. He’s been working at @josecuervotequila for decades and knows a thing or three about harvesting agave. . He tried to teach me to cut down the agave to the heart (aka piña) but I was told to keep my day job! 😂 So instead, I started eating (no surprise) the raw agave heart, which tastes almost like apple and jicama. . 📸 @borderfreetravels .

This right here? It’s what a taco salad wishes it could be! . The most cliché part of me being a native Angeleno is that I like totally can’t function without a salad a day🤣. So when I traveling I’m constantly ISO a great bowl of veg and does not disappoint. . Of all the salads I’ve had the last few days, I keep coming back to this one. Filled with nopales, beans, tomatoes, queso panela, and crispy tortilla bits, it was something I could eat everyday! . 📸 @borderfreetravels . 🇲🇽

Party Prep! 🎉 One of my favorite things is playing hostess and I got to do just that during the party we threw as part of our @borderfreetravels x @saltandwind trip. . We hosted a private dinner with the phenomenal chef @luchomtz of the soon-to-open @emiliarest in a gorgeous 1900s home that I would move in tomorrow if I could! And I got to intro our guests to some of my favorite Mexican wines like those from @fincalacarrodilla. See that ant-sized group of people down on the steps of Bellas Artes? That’s all the crew who is with us on our first-ever @saltandwind x @borderfreetravels trip! . What I love about leading these trips is seeing places I 💗 through other people’s eyes and seeing people who just met become fast friends. This last few days has felt less like work and more like a reunion of long lost friends. Not to get all gushy but it’s trips and groups like this that make me love what I do! . 📸 @borderfreetravels . 🇲🇽

Hola amigos! . Just touched down in and hosting a fun event with @borderfreetravels. We spent the day bringing the @remoteyear crew floating the canals of which is IMO one of the most magical spots in DF. . Not to dork out too much but this place is a a food and history lover (like me!) dream! It dates back to Aztec times when they constructed canals and chinampas (these sort of floating gardens) and there are a few farms left there that still keep up these historic ways. Oh and to get there? You take these colorful trajineras or gondolas that are decorated with all sorts of colors and flowers. Basically it was a full-on hearts-in-eyes day and a great way to kick of my trip. Much more to come! . 📸 @borderfreetravels..
