Throwing it way back to 2009 when I designed my first wedding invites for a friend and had no idea what I was doing! 💌 I made everything by hand and it took hours. Plus I’m pretty sure I made a loss on the materials too as I was too worried about over charging (and let’s not talk about charging for my time) 🤦♀️ . I don’t regret a thing and looking back it shows I’ve come a long way which makes me smile 😊 . Can’t wait to see what other throwbacks people will share today for #marchmeetthemaker 💫

Hello! I’m Joanne and I run Arnold & Bird 🤗 . Working with design-led souls is what I love to do. From helping creative businesses develop their product range with new product ideas. To bespoke graphic design and wedding stationery 💫 . And as I’m a stationery addict I have have a range of empowering stationery to help brighten your desk and day 📝 . Cooking, baking and yoga are my go to mindful activities to relax. As my mind is often racing with too many thoughts (anyone else?!) 🙏 . I recently got engaged to Nick so we’re planning our wedding for June 2020. And yes I’m super excited about designing our wedding stationery and I have lots of secret Pinterest boards with my ideas so far 💌📍🤩 . A big welcome to all my new followers and I can’t wait to meet everyone else today through the #MarchMeetTheMaker prompt 👋
What’s in the name Arnold & Bird? My brand name originates from my grandparents. My Grampy’s surname is Arnold and my Gran’s maiden name was Bird which already seemed like a pretty great match. But my Grampy was also a pigeon racer which tied in so well with the name Bird 💛 . And it’s why there is a feather in the ampersand of my logo 😊 . #MarchMeetTheMaker
On Tuesday I hosted my first solo event - the Social meet-up & lunch for creative businesses . I’ve been to events before and run them with others but there’s nothing like doing this solo to really set the nerves in just before the doors open 🙈 . But it was such a lovely afternoon! 13 businesses and entrepreneurs came together and chatted for three hours. I didn’t want to break them up to do the mini talk I’d planned on spotting trends! . Personally the word networking isn’t for me so the goal was to create a relaxed environment to talk. Which is basically what networking is anyway 💛 And it was the people tagged in this photo that made it such a success 💫 Meaning I can’t wait to host another one . A natural nervousness will still be there 10 minutes before, but it’ll definitely be less next time 😊 . 📷 by @roxpixphotography
I’m so excited to be partnering with @joannehawker today as the first giveaway! 💫 I’m offering a trend inspiration package to one winner which means you’ll receive 5 product trends that fit your business and personalised with ideas on how to apply this to your business 💡 . Head over to Joanne’s latest post to enter and I can’t wait to work with whoever wins 💛 . And if you’re not the lucky winner then grab 10% off my design services with code MEETTHEMAKER . I’m gonna go have a nosy at everyone’s flatlay pics from today’s prompt too. Gotta love a flatlay photo! 📷 #MarchMeetTheMaker
I’m taking it way back for today’s prompt: How you started 🤷♀️ At 17 I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go to uni - it’s such a big decision at that age isn’t it! So I joined the local Art Foundation course instead. This meant I decided uni was right for me in the form of a course called surface pattern design 🖌 . After uni I went into retail and e-commerce, and not design. There were times when I felt I didn’t have the career I wanted. My first two years were spent on a shop floor with the only creative thing I was doing was visual merchandising! . However now I look back and see that each job from working in trends and product development at Noths, to doing all the things at Tilly and the Buttons prepped me for where I’m at now. Having a deep understanding of creative businesses, the tools I need to run one and doing what I love doing and working in design in a way that suits my skill set 💫 . #MarchMeetTheMaker 📷 by @roxpixphotography
Hello #marchmeetthemaker ! The super lovely @joannehawker is running her brilliant challenge again and I can’t wait to see what everyone posts 💫 . Today is favourite to make which I found hard as I design bespoke wedding stationery, affirmation fuelled stationery for your desk, plus graphic design and product development ideas for creatives businesses. It’s all about the design for me! . But I decided on showcasing this recent bespoke wedding stationery order I did where the brief was modern calligraphy and natural greenery 🌱 Swipe to see it on the day ➡️ . What’s your favourite product (or service!) to make?
Last month I ran an online workshop on what is brand story telling and why it’s so important. Considering we launched it 3 days before the response we had was amazing and 75 people joined us live! 😍 . So based on that success we’re running another live workshop about ‘How much does it really cost to start a product business’ on Monday 4 March at 8pm . This is a question we get asked a lot so we’ll discuss what you should spend money on and 3 money mistakes to avoid . They’ll be no hard sell of an online course you need to sign up for afterwards either so don’t worry about that 😊 And we’re talking about this 4 days before this time so plenty of time to sign up! . Book your place via @arnoldandbird under events 🎟 . @elizabethstilesuk@futureretailuk and I look forward to seeing you next week! . 📷 by the lovely @roxpixphotography
The super lovely Rox from @roxpixphotography came to my flat on Monday and took some amazing photos for me! If you’re in the MK area then I can highly recommend her. We happily chatted away about places to eat, where to buy crystals and how to take care of cactuses (or in our case sometimes over water them!) 🍃 . She’ll be coming to my MK social meet up on the 5 March along with lots of other local creatives. We’ve got a great bunch coming so far so if you’re local I’d love to meet you too! 💛 . Tickets are £15 and include lunch, a mini talk on spotting trends, tea/coffee and a chance to build your community. It’s especially for people who don’t like traditional networking! 🎟 . 📷 @roxpixphotography
