WHY I NO LONGER SUBSCRIBE TO THE 1RM* LIFE . Pushing myself to failure or any other extremes . Even the other day, I caught myself saying I wanted to see what my Deadlift 1RM is . *(1RM is basically the maximum amount of weight you can do for 1 repetition of an exercise) . Sure, I will probably lift a lot of weight But for what purpose? . I used to push myself to extremes with lifting Beginning a training session just wishing for it to be over already . Then injure myself and hobble around for a week unable to do much else Then back in the weight room to do it all again🤦‍♀️ For me, I don’t see the point in that anymore 🤷‍♀️thankfully I never injured myself badly with training 🙏 But I know some people who have . ✔️I would rather move around, pain free ✔️I would rather fully enjoy my training sessions ✔️I would rather be consistent ✔️I would rather mix up my training ✔️I would rather balance it between higher & lower intensity ✔️I would rather take care of my body ✔️I would rather build true base level strength from different exercise disciples . I was speaking with my friend @robertjoyce1 the other day – . When does taking things to the absolute MAX worked out for the long term? . Driving a car to the absolute MAX speed? Eating the MAX amount of food? Then why do we do this with training? . Maybe our MAX is there for a reason, and that reason is – DON’T GO THERE. . It doesn’t mean you’re a “pussy” who doesn’t train hard Please back away from anyone who says that 🏃‍♀️ . I’ve found something so much more precious than a 1RM number . ✨I’ve found consistency ✨I found true enjoyment in training ✨I fell back in love with exercise ✨I feel at peace with my body . The way I see it, Instead of training through ego It’s training through soul It’s building INNER STRENGTH . I’m not saying I would never, ever go to a 1RM, or close to it... but just be wary of taking things to extremes . Who has ever experienced exercise feeling like a chore - what happened? 🏋️‍♀️🔥😬 . COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF DREAMS (and Joy) . I’ve found it can stop you IN YOUR TRACKS When you’ve made some PRETTY SIGNIFICANT TRACKS already . The sinking, retreating feeling that if you don’t recognise it – can literally be the thief of your dreams . The one person who is good to compare yourself with is… yourself See the progress you’ve made of the past year or five Count them up like blessings . I’ve been guilty of comparing so many times over It can be from bodies, to relationships, to sex life, to business It is so subtle when it comes up, paying attention to your emotions is the nudge . ❣️CATCH THAT ❣️SHIFT THAT ❣️CELEBRATE THAT . The truth is – no one knows what’s going on behind closed doors in anyone’s life . Some may say, some people only show a portion of their lives on social media, true that . But are people being “inauthentic” if then choose not to share EVERY detail of their lives either? . Or do we have a responsibility to manage our assumptions? Share the highs and the lows, the celebrations and the difficulties But we are all allowed some privacy, I don’t see that as being “inauthentic” . When you focus on other people You literally can’t focus on what you are creating, or the progress that YOU have made . Here are a couple of things that have helped me get over not feeling “enough” . ❣️CATCH THAT ❣️SHIFT THAT ❣️CELEBRATE THAT . Swap Comparison for Inspiration Swap Ego for Desire to Learn Swap “not enough” for “I’m enough, just as I am” . Tell me, what wins have you had over the past 1 year or so? 👇🥇🥊📢

AFFIRMATION USED TO MAKE MY BUTT CHEEKS GO TIGHT . I found them so, so awkward - anyone else? . I found journaling hard enough at the beginning (even though now it comes everywhere with me) . But then here was me on affirmations – “you want me to say some weird stuff, wait…. in from of a MIRROR? Are you mad?” . I literally ran in the other direction, I was so embarrassed to do anything like that. If you know, you know… . But the thing is, we literally say “affirmations” or “beliefs” whatever you wanna call them every day . Like - Every SINGLE day Again and again in your head. In your language, how you speak about yourself. We don’t feel awkward when we say things like: . “I always give up, why bother” “I’m not good enough” “I’m out of control” “I’m no good at that” . So why the awkwardness when we say something kind to ourselves, or GOSH – supportive? . Maybe it’s from childhood, society, we can’t think we are “big headed” *rolls eyes* – but really that doesn’t matter all that much… . One of the best things that helped me, get over my complete awkwardness with “affirmations” or as I prefer to call them “new beliefs” is…. . 1. Looking at all my CURRENT beliefs, and how negative (and even poisonous) and… just how ridiculous they were 2. Then looking at where I wanted to “get to” and what I would need to believe for that to be possible 3. Who I needed to *be* for that to be possible 4. Went and did that . Guess what one of my “old beliefs” was? Eating habits are HARD, and will ALWAYS BE THIS WAY . And now? It’s the thing I run in the OPPOSITE direction from. Why? Because I now believe Eating Habits Are Easy, Effortless . How? Because I became the person who allowed it, first . One of the most important things I learnt about new beliefs and changing YOU first is, . It’s not all in the statement.. It’s the energy and emotion that it triggers . 🙏INJURIES MAKE YOU HUMBLE🙏 . It’s almost 12 months since the break and here are things I’ve learnt & reflected on:: . ✨You don’t know what you’ve got until you haven’t ✨Being in a wheelchair gives you a different perspective and respect on life, your body and the real challenges others face ✨Your body is the most amazing thing you will ever own, you just lie there and it heals for you ✨There is no rush, or no end date in training, take your time and enjoy it ✨Stop fighting your body, encourage it instead ✨Put MORE time, effort and energy into joint health, mobility & flexibility then you do in intense exercise ✨Recovering from injury is more of a mental game than physical ✨Cry, and cry a lot. Let it out for the purposes of Releasing it. Don’t fester in it. ✨Building true base level strength in rehab will be the foundation to your success ✨Rehabbing properly can help fix other injuries ✨I walked out of the hospital, some didn’t ✨Take time, care and your days slowly ✨Injuries can be your biggest catalyst for change, if you choose it ✨Look for the lessons and blessings ✨Make a promise to yourself . 💥12 things to stop doing immediately💥..If you want to become consistent, have long term results and (genuinely) fall in love with exercise again (no more guilt or chore-like feeling) . PRE-NOTE: I don’t mean these from a place of preaching. I say these from a place of someone who has done EVERY SINGLE ONE of these and learnt a lesson in each of them. . 1. Stop associating exercise with weight loss. Completely. 2. Let go of what you feel you “should” or “need” to do by religiously following a programme, instead LISTEN to your body 3. Stop believing the higher intensity and the harder you go, the “better” it is for you. No. 4. Stop beating yourself up or feeling guilty if you don’t feel like going to the gym, or you miss a session completely 5. Stop pushing through injuries. LISTEN to your body. It’s trying to tell you something (notice the theme here) 6. Stop exercising through ego, rather than health and longevity. Your ego will survive another day, your lumber spine may not. No one’s free from the risk of injury, but you can do your best to avoid it. 7. Stop comparing yourself to others. Say no more. 8. Stop trying to learn the complex exercises, before mastering the basic, simple habits (it will just lead to overwhelm, not feeling “good” enough and ultimately injury and giving up) 9. Stop treating exercise (and your body) as a 6 week programme, instead see it as a life-long spiritual practice. 10. Stop disregarding stretching, mobilising, walking and lower-intensity exercise as non-exercise. It’s what supports your higher-intensity sessions. Not to mention your nervous system, endocrine and more… 11. (Said with love) Stop blaming lack of exercise, when food maybe the issue 12. Stop seeing exercise to burn calories (however little or much you've eaten) instead, use it to grow stronger, healthier and to reconnect with your body . There we have it. .
