Honored to interview Marsha Jones from @theafiyacenter in Texas today. Afiyaโ€™s work is centered around experiences of Black women, especially in services for reproductive health. The center is a voice to advocate against harmful policies + legislation that keep Black women at risk. Maternal mortality is a huge issue around the world and in the US, and specifically in Texas, where maternal mortality has doubled in recent years! The Afiya Center provides outreach, education, and care to aid these women who have been largely ignored and passed over on the legislative front. ๐ŸŽง We discuss: โœ”๏ธHow the centerโ€™s work has evolved in the treatment of HIV and the entire experience of a womanโ€™s right to have children โœ”๏ธUnderstanding the scope of reproductive oppression and reproductive justice โœ”๏ธHow Afiya helps with the stigma black women receive when they seek an abortion โœ”๏ธWhy maternal mortality rates are so high for black women in Texas; the bottom line is racism โœ”๏ธHow provider-biases stem from racism, when black women arenโ€™t treated with the same level of care as other women โœ”๏ธThe spaces that are being created in the faith community for reproductive justice โœ”๏ธThe Texas Black Womenโ€™s Reproductive Justice Summit: , created in direct response to the state of black womenโ€™s reproductive health in Texas โœ”๏ธHow we can do better in sex education in our country โœ”๏ธThe Afiya Centerโ€™s mission to teach women about their bodiesโ€™ functions, birth control, pregnancy, and sexual health โœ”๏ธThe realization that women hold power over their reproductive health โœ”๏ธThe dangers of โ€œabstinence onlyโ€ sex ed programs ๐ŸŽง If youโ€™re in womenโ€™s health, listen and share todayโ€™s show, follow @theafiyacenter and ๐Ÿ’ฐdonate๐Ÿ’ฐ to their work (link in their profile. โ™ฅ๏ธThank YOU Marsha for taking your time to speak with me last year, and for all the work you do. โ™ฅ๏ธ

. If Iโ€™m really honest, my deepest desire has always been to revel in my own basassery. To never apologize for who I am. To deeply know the Soul in this body, and connect with the Divine through this life. . Itโ€™s the same for all of my clients, thought they donโ€™t know it at first. Itโ€™s only in retrospect after weโ€™ve worked together for a while that they turn to me with grins on their faces and deep satisfaction in their sigh, โ€œI feel like MYSELF, and I ask for what I need, and I know what I want. It feels SO good.โ€ . Thatโ€™s that basics of all I do and ever want to do: help womxn get everything we desire. Because hereโ€™s what I know for certain: When womxn get everything we want, based on deep self-exploration, healing, clearing, and seeing, the world gets better. . [ISO original creator of this meme - itโ€™s been reposted so many times I spent 10 minutes going down a rabbit hole] . .

My autobiographyโ€™s subtitle... ya with me? Every woman Iโ€™ve coached in the last 17 years has shared with me, with a hint of shame in her voice: โ€œIโ€™m and emotional eater,โ€ or โ€œI eat when Iโ€™m stressed.โ€ Darling, I always say, welcome to the human race. We are emotional beings, and EVERY person you see makes emotional eating choices. Even the huge bulky dude at the gym who adds Weight Gainer 3000 to his smoothie is making an emotional decision. . Iโ€™ve worked with CEOs and PhDs, entrepreneurs and artists and school teachers. Every one of us has the same โ€œproblemโ€ - we THINK we are BAD because we eat with emotion. . In reality we live in a culture that seems hell bent on making us crazy and never feeling ENOUGH enough...The diets and nutritional science change every few months...We age... We donโ€™t have the right hair or height or skin color or wardrobe. . Iโ€™m here to tell you the emotions are better spent looking at the culture we live in and working to change what we see as WRONG and oppressive, instead of killing our selves for being โ€œimperfect.โ€ . In my book, Women, Food, And Desire, I explore this and more at great depth. And what to do to flip the script. Available on @audible and wherever you buy books. . โ€œLet the beauty of what you love be what you do.โ€ ~ Rumi .

โ€œCreativity takes courageโ€ Henri Matisse โ€œEvery artist was first an amateurโ€ Ralph Waldo Emerson โ€œI paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration.โ€ Frida Kahlo โ€œArt enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.โ€ Thomas Merton Working with a client yesterday, she said she was lacking courage. I asked her to list a few courageous actions she had successfully taken in her life: it was inspiring for both of us. If youโ€™re any kind of creator, artist, student, youโ€™re courageous. If you left an unhappy or abusive relationship, youโ€™re courageous. If you speak a revolutionary idea, even if itโ€™s โ€œjustโ€ different from how your family feels, youโ€™re a Lioness. If youโ€™ve raised children alone, healed your body, or run your own business, youโ€™re filled with Courage. Youโ€™ve just forgotten, for a moment, that youโ€™re brave. UPDATE: this piece is sold Watercolor by me.

Hello, Iโ€™m Alex. Iโ€™m here on the social meeds to connect and offer support to driven, creative, professional womxn. In the last few years my mom + grandmothers passed, and a deep, raw truth became so clear: โ€œBring your full self to the world, before itโ€™s too late. Time is passing - whatโ€™s asking to be born through you?โ€ Itโ€™s not usually clear to us: our โ€œshouldsโ€ are stronger than our intuition. Our desire for the Gold Star overrules our inner Risk Taker. Rules are placed over top of our souls, by this racist patriarchy, that keep our truth hidden, and hurt our energy. But there is a consciousness becoming clear: to serve the world, Womxn must come together to heal, create, lead, and live big. Join me? โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅโ™ฅ๏ธ

The secret: goi" - 1948100995168684097

Slow is smooth + smooth is fast. Do you already know this secret? It has changed my life, time + again. The secret: going faster + harder at life doesnโ€™t work the way we think it does. In fact, it may cause way more problems for us than we knowโ€ฆ The truth I keep being reminded of is this: slow is smooth, smooth is fast. When we slow down, bring our awareness to how we are doing things and the effects of our actions, then commit to small changes, made consistently, thatโ€™s when things get interesting, and big, sustainable changes result. What would it be like to move smoothly, consistently, gracefully + joyfully to your goals + desires? Slow is smooth + smooth is fast. This is the essence of feminine energy, masterfully harnessed, that weโ€™ll use to our benefit in the Have It All Mentorship. (funny enough, itโ€™s an idea I picked up from some military history, which appeals to my inner Warrior Goddess) Iโ€™ve moved too quickly in the past: Made bold goals, sweeping changes, and leaped before I looked. (Iโ€™m an Aries born on a Full Moon after allโ€ฆ) But it led to exhaustion, overwhelm, wasted time and effort, and anxiety. A few years ago, I would be up working before 6am, packing in a full day, caring for my son, then working again until 10pm. Unnecessary busy work took hold of my calendar, and I wasnโ€™t making real progress on my career goals. My health suffered, and I was irritated, overwhelmed. Insomnia, fatigue + low-libido plagued me. Then I learned that slow is smooth + smooth is fast. Charging ahead too fast may win you early โ€œquick startโ€ points in your mind/ego, but if you canโ€™t maintain those actions long term you may be worse off than when you started. You may be 100% right in trusting your intuition. BUT If we move too fast, you may skip details or rush past a lesson on the journey that will deepen + add to the desire in a way that truly matters. When you move slow, doing less at first, you can truly integrate the information of your process. In the Have It All Mentorship, my 12-month group coaching program, we will move slow, smoothly, then fast. Join today.
