I don't have a selfie or family pic to upload, I only have poetry. Thanks to everyone who have been a part of my 2018 - poets, publishers, bookworms, law school classmates [I made a few friends despite my shitty attendance], mental health advocates, random people who rocked my soul one way or another. If they're on IG, they know who they are. I'd like to end with this note from Andrea Gibson's work "Birthday": "I suppose I love this life in spite of my clenched fist."

Translation: Father, I want to tear off this Sunday dress cut in your holy perfumed talk trespass into your vineyard wearing only the scent of monthly bleeding and conviction of a ___ child. Mother, won't you come out of the closet with me?

. For you who know how hard it is to want to live . . Your smile is better news than a ratified healthcare bill you starve, you survive night after night after night in your neighborhood where everyone carries the switchblades of doubt in their breast pockets. Some hearts fall harder than October i. On our worst days, we would still kiss find ourselves too lost in each other's dark alleys to remember the color of our country homes and their hate speech. ii. Before Sabbath, we were holier than most preachers more law-abiding than a few good lobbyists but our kindness was not meant to be popular much like our private library - loud only when we chose to be empowered by literature. iii. In the darkness of the fuschia scent of a hundred dying flowers, we felt we were travelling poets who had come home. © Geraldine Fernandez . . . This poem appears on print, The Red Edition in honor of World AIDS Day. A percentage of proceeds will go to the Crescentcare in New Orleans, an organization dedicated to the wellness and medical needs of HIV/AIDS patients. https://julythirteen.weebly.com/journal/some-hearts-fall-harder-than-october-selah-magazine . @bymepoetry@voicesofpoets

Packing for my trip back to my hometown, where women fathered me. The cover art "Laughing Rose" by Diedre Scherer looked rather too much like my late grandmother whose name is Rosalina. This anthology was published by Papier-Mache Press in 1987 {the same year I was born}. Warning, the poem where the title of the collection was taken from, was written by Jenny Joseph. Jenny was the nickname I was given at home, thanks grandma and mom. :o

Swipe poem --->>> . Published in Isacoustic*, August 27, 2018. https://isacoustic.com/2018/08/27/person-geraldine-fernandez-one-poem/ . . . Honored to be published by poet / editor Barton Smock whose poetry I have come to seriously admire. Excited that this piece will also appear in print. This btw was my first work accepted for publication since I decided to try submitting again in August which was more than a year since I had any work considered by a journal. . #
