“Over the past decade interfaces have changed considerably. It used to be about keeping someone inside your app for as long as possible. Now context is king; assuming someone’s behaviour, and giving them only what is relevant, is far more valuable. Gone are the skeuomorphic days of leather stitching and brushed steel. Augmented reality, rich notifications and voice assistants try to keep people out of apps instead. They focus more on what is important at that very moment. Hopefully this means less reliance on the little black pieces of glass in our pockets. But then there’s always Candy Crush.” - Ashley Morris, Design Lead. 📸: @joshua.heath
Move over, Black Mirror. To toast the end of the year we crafted a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure card game for the high seas, ‘A Game for Grumpy Sailors’. Part drinking game, part Cards Against Humanity, part weird thing of our invention, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Or a leg. Check out our stories to see the deck, sailors.
What a year. Thanks for helping us ask the big (and small) questions; see you on the other side.
On Friday we took a moment (for some, those moments continued to the wee hours) to get together as a team, let our hair down and toast to the amazing people who make everything we do possible. To the band of Grumpy Misfits: thanks for some more cracking memories. Rest up and refresh your curiosities for another year of question-asking come January.
Pitch (mostly) perfect. Our Co-Cap James Boyce strutting his stuff and riffing on a super exciting (but a little top secret) venture we’re working on, called Project Rover. More to come.
Great shot from the epic new @triple_j_unearthed addition at the Amplifier at the @australianmusicvault. So cool to see a genuine nursery of Aussie artists get a feature (and help make it happen). Remember to pop by the @artscentremelbourne to check it out. Photo & credits to @triple_j@luketrevitt@brendanwoithe@gflip
To support @Google's biggest ever hardware launch - Pixel, Phone by Google - we created a retail experience custom built for the flagship @telstra stores in Sydney and Melbourne back in 2017. These incredible interactive 12m Pixel Walls sported more than 12,000 LED buttons, that could all be controlled by your #Pixel phone. That's a lotta meatballs! #GrumpyWork
“As a producer at such a unique agency there are heaps of moving pieces to juggle simultaneously. It’s what keeps the job exciting and challenging. At any one point you could be managing the timelines and communication between designers, engineers, videographers, copywriters, musicians and creatives or experts in a field you only just heard about. Our projects are so wide and varied you never really get a chance to settle.” - Kate Bennett, Senior Producer. 📸: @joshua.heath
