Exercise is the greatest antidepressant. And it’s free! Well it can be anyway 😎 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Lately I’ve been teaching less @flywheelsports classes. I don’t teach any spin classes Thursday - Sunday. By Sunday I can be a little grumpy. Don’t get me wrong, I exercise in other ways, but there’s nothing like sweating with 50 of my riders in that studio! I feel so much better after class this morning 🤗. Hmmmm... maybe I should teach my Friday 930am Flatiron class again. Any thoughts? Put a ☀️ below if sweating changes your mood!
“Paris is always a good idea.” What a magical long weekend filled with love. 🇫🇷 Just a few details from my trip: 1. Although we packed one outfit for a potential run, it didn’t happen. Our bodies were too out of whack from the time change and we walked MILES every day. We also slept in every day. 😍 2. We ate whatever we wanted whenever we wanted including croissants, cheese, bread and pastries. Each morning we craved green juice and made sure we added greens to meals whenever possible. 🥗@wildandthemoon was a life saver! 3. We put our phones away for just about the entire trip. Of course we posted and shared our journey, but it was a nice break from life. 4. We had a blast! We’re also ready for routine. Can’t wait to exercise regularly and eat well. #paris #france #cityoflove #vacation

Me at most parties. 🙂🙃 I am an introvert. I used to consider that a negative character trait. I now honor it as part of who I am. People automatically assume I’m an extroverted person with a huge personality because of my teaching style. It’s certainly part of who I am, but it’s me as a teacher and coach. I have a hard time with big groups and small talk. Im much better one-on-one and with deep conversations. I crush so hard on this woman. My #wcw belongs to @jenniford1 today and always. Jen is the epitome of bright light. She is the most attentive and loving mother on the planet. (Sidenote: I’m so sick of hearing people say “moms don’t work”. They deserve a medal 🏅 every damn day. Their work is never done and J does it happily and with a smile and a hug every day.). This incredible woman survived breast cancer just a few years ago and went on to get a degree in positive psychology. She is the brightest star in my sky and brings endless joy to my life. There are plenty of days I find myself frustrated or discouraged with my “progress”. Maybe its the athlete in me- always looking for the next win. However when I pause and reflect on how much I’ve accomplished and take time to appreciate the exciting journey, I find peace. Above all else I’m able to make a difference in others lives. I have love in my life, beautiful friends and meaningful work in a city I love. Gratitude. It changes any perspective.
They said you’re too short to play basketball. They also said it’s hard to make it in New York. Glad I NEVER listened. I thrive as the underdog. It’s a place where you have nothing to lose and everything to prove. I used to step on the court and repeatedly be underestimated. That didn’t last long. I still have sad days, sad moments, and anxiety that covers my entire body like a super itchy adult onesie – but I feel like I have the tools to identify it, address it, and be kind and gentle with myself through it. -My rest days are my most important ones -Feeling support, encouragement, empathy and grace from my #1 @kristyturbo gives me energy on this journey..thank you, sweets 😘❤ -Demonstrating balanced priorities for my kids is PRIORITY!! @hollyrilinger I appreciate you!!! H O O P D R E A M S 🏀🧡 At 5’4 - my height put me at a huge disadvantage on the basketball court. Looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t have height. Instead, I had to have heart. In the long run, that heart has taken me so much further than a few inches would have. Anybody else have a tough week? So many of my clients told me they haven’t felt like themselves. It’s nice to know when we’re not alone in our feelings. Seasonal transitions are hard so give yourself a chance to adjust and get back into the rhythm of your life. Things don’t always happen all at once. What a sweet summer it was 🏄🏼♀️☀️ I’m not innately a New York City girl. I was born in Kansas and grew up in the mountains of Virginia. One of the only reasons I ❤️ NYC is because I take time to get away. @jenniford1 and I spent our entire summer at the beach on Louse Point - a finger of land that juts out into the bay in The Hamptons. We grilled most dinners at home, spent our days surfing, paddling, running and swimming outside. It’s the balance we need when living the rest of the year in the craziness that is NYC. I’ve passed up many jobs that would require me to give up this balance. This is the life I am designing by choice. #hollylife
Blowing into the next season like 💨➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Transition is hard! I find the summer to fall transition to be one of the hardest. I like to practice the act of transition in my classes. How do I handle hard to easy? Do I take a break when it’s given to me? Can I move a little closer to discomfort when I need to? I talked about this in my latest Holly Life Email. This summer I completely changed things up and I feel my best! Here’s what I did: 1. Took 3 months off from lifting weights. 2. Slept at least 8 hours every night. 3. Ate what I wanted to eat. This ended up being less meat and more veggies, but plenty of carbs. 4. Was active outdoors as much as possible (surf, swim, running). 5. Taught 4 spin classes each week (compared to the 12 I used to teach). Here’s why I’m telling you this: I listened to my body. I needed a break from training. I took days off and lived a life of moderation. I didn’t deprive myself. I didn’t overdo it. I feel great. Am I in the best shape of my life? Nope. But I feel fantastic and will continue to listen to what I need. My goals for the season is more yoga, more meditation and a little bit of strength training. ✨Endless Summer Nights. ✨✨ What a summer it’s been with my love. For the month of August we made a point of being by the ocean every day, and stayed most days until sunset. This woman has shown me deep personal acceptance, balance and gratitude. Through her love, I love myself more, I take more time for myself and I make a point of enjoying each and every moment. What do you get when you mix an inspiring group of people with a gorgeous late summer morning and killer beats? A KICK A$$ Workout experience! This morning 40 people of all ages (7-65) and fitness levels came together to get LIFTED at @muvstrong. Red Bull lit up our morning with a portable DJ booth/car, @matthewdevoe offered treatments and our gift bags were filled with goodies from @scrubzbody @nutshell_co @simplysublimehamptons and @plantjuiceoils. A C T I V A T E 🔥💪🏽 # Four quick and easy moves to activate your body for movement. Use these exercises to “wake up” your core, glutes and lats. 1. Dead Bug. be sure to “glue” your lower back to the ground and resist arching. 2. Bird Dog. Keep your hips square to the floor. Emphasize lower back strength + balance while activating glutes + traps. 3. Glute Bridge March. This trains your body to stabilize the pelvis while moving lower body. 4. Side Plank Rotations. Builds stability and strength in lateral + rotational movements of core. * Do each movement for 60s twice.
