I always find it remarkable how much work it takes just to find a little simplicity and clarity. @conrad_anker enjoying the moment and some of the finer elements of life - singular purpose, a good view and a little sunshine. Ulvetanna, Queen Maud Land. Hope you get to check out @cedarwright’s film “Queen Maud Land” about our journey to Antarctica that’s currently playing on the @reelrock tour. It’s a fun look back on one of my favorite expeditions ever. For a little perspective, zoom in to see our epic campsite below... @thenorthface @yeti
5.16.18 Somewhere along the West Coast of Greenland. This is one of the last really remote spots I got to spend time in this year. Sometimes it’s good just to know it exists out there being beautiful...
Imagine kayaking the massive rapids of the Grand Canyon....Now imagine doing it blind. In September this year, @lonnie.r.bedwell, the world's most experienced and badass blind kayaker along with 4 other blind veterans, completed a 12 day, 226 mile descent, of the Colorado River, with support from 15 other kayak guides and safety boaters. Today & everyday, we honor our #veterans - Thanks to Team River Runner for making it happen. @teamriverrunner is a veteran group doing adaptive paddle sports with the powerful and effective goal of getting veterans back out in the outdoors and on the rivers. ••• Big shout out to @google street view and my friends @senderfilms @timmyoneill @brettlowel @jamesqmartin @sandy.russellc for capturing the story and heart of this epic journey. Learn more at the link in my bio.
Floating Chomolungma / Everest summit from the north, Rongbuk Glacier, Tibet. Fuji Velvia. August 2002.
Some days feel longer than others. @conrad battling through a long day on Ulvetanna, Queen Maud Land. The issue when you’re on a route that mixes big wall climbing and alpine climbing is that the rack feels light for the wall climbing and heavy for the alpine climbing. Either way, Conrad’s hauling most of it in this photo after cleaning a long pitch of snow, rock and misery on day 8 of our sub zero @thenorthface odyssey in Antarctica. #tnfantarctica17
This is probably one of the most important elections I have ever known. Your vote matters. I’m speaking to you, the youth vote that will shape your future, your country. As David Foster Wallace said "If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched establishments...who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible psychological reason to stay at home... By all means stay home if you want, but don't bullshit yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some diehard’s vote." Thanks to @jeremyjones for making the big push on getting the vote out and sharing this quote that says it all.
If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s how truly important it is to work w people you trust implicitly, not just in their work but in who they are as people...people who are accountable for what they do and what they say. @mikeylikesrocks delivers on all fronts. Always. So much respect to this gentleman who was our high angle DP and also managed the wall team and logistics on Free Solo. Here he is in action filming w @alexhonnold on the upper pitches of Freerider. Free Solo is currently in wide release nationwide. If you’re interested in behind the scenes from the film, hit the @nytimes Op Doc link in my bio. @chaivasarhelyi @natgeo
My good friend @mheineman (Matt Heineman / Director of Cartel Land) opens his latest film, A Private War, in theaters this weekend. True to all of Matt’s work, the film is moving and beautiful w a narrative that will leave a deep impression. Such an important film in a time when journalism itself is under attack. Based on a true story about one of the greatest journalists of our time, A Private War is an homage to journalism, searching for truth and the great sacrifices journalists make to bring us that truth. From the producers of Sicario and Wind River, A Private War releases in theaters this weekend in NY and LA and nationwide later this month. Go see it! #APrivateWar
