Massive icebergs, floating in dark waters along the Antarctica peninsula under stormy skies. Tabulars are large chunks of shelf ice that break off, the largest in documented history was in 2017 when a Tab the size of Delaware, an estimated One TRILLION ton chunk, broke loose from the Larsen C ice shelf. The scale of these icebergs is daunting and the scene a beautiful one, however the rate and scale at which this is happening is alarming. is melting rapidly and the decisions we are making as humans need to be changed if we hope to slow down climate change. On the hunt, a smoothly gliding through the icy waters of . This seals strategy is simple, ambush. Stealthily hiding on the fringe of an iceberg to prey on young penguins that waywardly cross through this area as they head out to sea to hunt krill. Spending time in the water with these animals is magical, something I would have been much more reluctant to do had I not been with friend @paulnicklen who has a clear understanding of their behavior. It’s a situation where patience, luck and staying calm are essential as you cross your frozen fingers and hope for an encounter like this. Photographed on assignment for @natgeo@sealegacy

There’s nothing easy about taking photos like this. We came across this deceased while working in Antarctica last year on a and krill story for @natgeo@sealegacy. It’s unclear what the cause of this whales death was; what is clear however is that krill is being fished out of the ecosystem here at an alarming rate, THE food source for whales and nearly every mammal that lives in Antarctica. @paulnicklen and @andy_mann seen here in the zodiac filming and providing scale to the shear size of this animal.

From desert to rain forest to glacial, Mount is home to the 8 primary terra ecosystems. Depending on where you begin your hike you can actually experience all 8 as you leave the desert floor and make your way up Africa’s tallest mountain. Here’s a small collection of time lapses I shot along the way up in 2015. @mikelibecki@lilliana_libecki@goalzero@natgeoadventure@dell@wwtrek

These powerful storms twist and turn, forcefully sucking up dirt and raining down hail, water and lightning in their relentless path. Meso’s are at the core of a , a whirling vortex that often drop tornados when they’re in a wound up state such as this. This particular storm went on to later produce a small tornado, small being a relative term as it was still powerful enough to take out power lines and damage a nearby facility.
