Oh I needed this reminder today. I remember hearing on an episode of the @Oprah show years ago that "forgiveness is letting go of the hope that things could have been different." There are no mistakes in God's universe, even the colossal mess our world is in today. Our job is to learn the lessons, forgive ourselves and each other and do better next time. I love you @thekyledraper. You inspire me everyday.

In 2014 I had the honor of being named one of @glamourmag's women of the year. I was the first openly trans woman so honored by the magazine. But 61 years earlier was named woman of the year by The Scandinavian Society. When word of Jorgensen's gender transition was leaked to the press in December 1952 she became arguably one of the most famous women in the world in 1953 when she returned to America. Jorgensen navigated fame as an openly trans woman at a time when the medical protocol was that trans folks transition and then never disclose our trans status, when being openly trans often meant stigma, ridicule, discrimination, violence and death. Being openly trans to this day often still means all those things. Jorgensen's life is a wonderful blueprint for all of us. Thank you Christine.

I just wanted to take this moment to celebrate actress @msjamieclayton's first and long overdue magazine cover photographed by @liaclay Jamie is an actress who is openly trans but has never wanted to lead with being trans. She wants her work to speak for itself. You should check out her incredible work on if you havent. It, indeed, speaks for itself. I am just so happy and proud that actresses like Jamie and others are doing their careers their way. There's not just one, two or two billion ways to be trans or human. We all must find our own paths and follow them in ways that feel most authentic to us. I love Jamie for insisting on that. There should be room for us all to do that.

Yesterday the Gender Expression and Nondiscrimination (GENDA) finally achieved passage in both houses of New York State's legislature. The bill provides explicit protections against discrimination for transgender New Yorkers. It has taken 17 years to get this bill passed. 17 years. In 2002 when SONDA (The Sexual Orientation Nondiscrimination Act) passed trans and gender nonconforming people were dropped from the bill at the last minute. Advocates at the time didnt think they could get the bill passed with trans folks being included. Trans people were told 'we'll get to you.' It has taken 17 years later. I, of course, celebrate the passage of this bill but this story should be a reminder that everyone must always be included. The Governor is expected to sign the bill into law this week. ... In 2013 I wrote a piece (link in bio) for @huffpost about Kiara St. James and Tanya Walker ( pictured) 2 of a group of activists who traveled to Albany every Tuesday, January to June to speak to lawmakers about getting GENDA passed. Thank you to folks like Kiara, Tanya, Melissa Sklars and the many activists and organizations who worked tirelessly for 17 years to make this happen. You all inspire me so much. Thank you and congratulations on this incredible acheivement. ..

Congrats @indyamoore on your gorgeous cover. What you wrote in this caption though is just everything. I have often felt like I have had to tow the line of respectability and authenticity. Your rejection of respectability politics is sobering and inspiring... Reposted from @indyamoore - (Link in bio) “I want to normalize speaking out and being truthful and honest and just being real and being vulnerable because this is everything that PR tells us not to do. This is everything that media training tells us not to do. It's all to protect a (photoshopped) image (or version that isn’t real or who we really are at all). The way I want people to connect to me is not to look up to me—I want people to look at me and to see a piece of themselves in me, not see somebody that they want to be like. I want them to see somebody that already exists within them. That's why it's important for me to be vulnerable or be honest or be imperfect. You know what I mean, and not ride on this wave of perfectionism that people be trying to follow.” My dearest @mjrodriguez7 Thank you for always pulling and inspiring the best of me out of me! You are such a light in my life! This is my favorite interview i’d ever done because of you! 🥰 Thank you so much for this cover feature @lofficielusa !! It was a fun and anxious day. Thank you for everyone on the team for pulling it all together you all worked so hard and I am entirely grateful for each of you. Aingeru thank you for your eye, genius and your patience. As a byproduct of my humanity, I felt very insecure that day and you affirmed me boosted my confidence and made me feel beautiful!
