I was happy to narrate this free children’s audiobook talking about climate change. I find it hard sometimes to find the right words to teach my 3 year old daughter about our planet and our need to look after it better, without scaring her, and I think we need more stories like this. Link in bio!
Happy 30th Birthday - the WEB! “Vague, but exciting” is what was originally said to the proposal by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. With 50% of the world online, the web has transformed our world, changing our political, economic structures and personal lives. However, like any tool it can be used in both positive and negative ways, and its founder Tim recognises that it is currently at a moral cross-roads. Tim is therefore urging governments and companies to reform their laws and customs for the web: “citizens must hold companies and governments accountable for the commitments they make, and demand that both respect the web as a global community with citizens at its heart.” We all have a role to play to protect the web as a public good and a basic right for everyone - Read Tim’s letter (link in bio) and join #ForTheWeb! #Web30
Thank you Mcqueen family for bringing me over & giving me such a warm embrace. It was a homecoming of sorts: the collection took inspiration from Sarah Burton’s homeland Northern England - land of textile mills, the moors and fierce women like Emily Bronte and Emmeline Pankhurst. It is crazy to reflect, the first time I came to Paris for a McQueen show I was 15 - over half my life time ago! I ❤️ Paris & @alexandermcqueen
❤️ @simonerocha_ ~ who took inspiration from Louise Bourgeois’ fabric to explore ideas of “intimacy, privacy, security, femininity.” When Simone asked me to walk in her show I was surprised to find myself feeling like saying YES! Hers was the first fashion show I have walked since the 2012 Olympics - and I joined a strong group of women (swipe for images). I love Simone and Louise Bourgeois’ work: feminine in surprising, disruptive ways. Photo by Jesse John Jenkins
I was excited to read that Sikkim (India) is going to implement a Universal Basic Income for every one of its citizens! It will be the largest trial of UBI run anywhere in the world. I first came across a proposal for UBI in the Green Party Manifesto. Studies and pilots around the world suggest it could radically reform the welfare state: making it more humane, less stressful for people who need help and less bureaucratic for governments to manage. I went behind the scenes at @impossible_foods where they are cooking up crazy plant based alternatives to meat that “bleed” and taste like the real thing. Really. Their drive is chiefly environmental: their burger produces 10x less greenhouse gases, and uses 10x less water, than real meat. Not to mention the animal rights bit. I haven’t eaten a “real” hamburger in over 20 years; this one was delicious.
