Dear Lydia, . Last night, we stayed out a little too late for a girls’ date. We ate too much popcorn, and too much candy. The alarm went off a little too early today…..and I woke up with a smile on my face because it was totally worth it. You’re speeding towards your fifth birthday, want to do everything yourself, and I know the time is approaching when you won’t be into mommy and me dates. From movie nights to dress up parties, these days are the best. Thank you for including me in your joy, the excitement over little things, and for letting me see magic again through your eyes. . May you never lose the ability to see magic. Or to create it for those around you. . Love, your mommy #letterstolydia
Fanny Pack: yay or nay? . This Park Pack from Freshly Picked is possibly my new favorite accessory for mommy and me dates. It fits just the right amount of stuff, and leaves me hands free (I’d like to point out that my husband rolled his eyes at my romper and park pack…..but to me? It’s my best life). . From their Park Pack to the adorable sneakers they just released to their moccasins and sandals to TODAY’s addition (kids’ clothes)…..Freshly Picked makes the BEST items for kids and moms. We’re teaming up with them to offer you guys a 10% discount code for EVERYTHING. Yup, every thing on their site. Check the link in my profile to grab the coupon code and to shop all our favorite items! #freshlypicked
🎉It’s time for a Sleep-Under!🎉 . Please tell me you saw our Instagram stories taking these pictures at the mall. Robbie wins extra points, right? We were visiting the Hanna Andersson store at the Village at Topanga to prepare for their big Sleep Under Party (it’s on the 27th). Lydia is super excited…..they’re turning the store into a pajama only location and hosting a huge celebration. There will be pizza, slime making…..everything fun about a sleep over. We’ll be there from 11 - 1 on Saturday, and I’m super excited about the prospect of meeting some of YOU. Comment and let me know if you’ll be joining us…..(we’ll be the girls in the pajamas)!

Today is Body Confidence Day! . To me, this is EXACTLY what body confidence is about. Beyond beautiful pictures, beyond feeling good in my own skin, it’s about modeling that for Lydia. Because I want her to grow up feeling confident, secure, and to appreciate beauty in all different shapes and sizes (especially in herself). Gotta walk the walk right ladies? As I look back over the last six months or so, I’ve been inspired by the women who have walked this journey along with me…..who were brave enough to #justwearthesuit. . Summer may be over, but let’s be real……body confidence is something we all need to work on YEAR round. To give you a little inspiration, I’ve tagged some of the women who inspire me online each and every day.
💕 Can I get a double tap if you can only do SUPER easy crafts?💕 . I feel like people think I must be crafty because I’m a teacher…..well, NOT AT ALL! This weekend Lydia and I hosted a fun crafting playdate at the LA Zoo in partnership with Tree Top and my goal was to make the crafts as easy as possible. Aren’t these mummy pouches adorable? Every kid (even the toddlers) created one……and took them home for Halloween decorating. . #ad We ate amazing snacks (including taste testing ALLLLLL the Tree Top pouch flavors), met Seymour the Tree Top mascot, and the kids went home with ADORABLE gift bags (the cutest @skiphop backpacks filled with @treetopinc pouches and Halloween plate sets from @replayrecycled). . The verdict? Easy crafts and good food? Make a perfect play date. (you can see all the fun details from our crafting session on the blog now)! #seethegood
👑 “For every girl who dreams big, there’s a princess to show her it’s possible.” 👑 . The #dreambigprincess campaign may be my favorite thing Disney has done in a LONG time. Taking these classic characters and focus on the way they show girls to dream, to make change, to empower each other? It’s phenomenal. Well, the Disney Princesses have made it even better. This month, every time one of us Disney Bounds as a princess and uses the Dream Big Princess hashtag……Disney is donating to Girl Up. An amazing foundation that…..encourages girls to dream big. I outlined all the details on the blog (link in profile). . Now my only question is…..which princess should Lydia and I bound as NEXT?
🌈We are the one in 4.🌈 . And realistically, a lot of you are too. Today is national miscarriage awareness day, and I wanted to take a moment to say…..you are not alone. When we had our miscarriage before Lydia, I felt lost. I felt alone. I felt hopeless. I felt like it was my fault. This little girl was meant to be our family. But that doesn’t make the loss any less significant or less painful. For those of you struggling today, please know…….we have not forgotten you. As due dates approach, pregnancies are announced, and you hurt……take care of yourself. Tell your friends and family what you need. Your needs are important. And know that you are not alone. . From our rainbow family to yours, may the clouds part and the rain stop……..and until then, let your friends and family (and even kind strangers on the internet) hold an umbrella through your storm. #miscarriageawareness #ihadamiscarriage
💕#ad Tell the truth, do you ACTUALLY take care of yourself? I’m not gonna lie, I tend to run on empty a lot, and not REALLY take the time to take care of my own health needs. 💕 . Remember that on my own trip to Target® last week? One of my goals was to pick up THIS. For months I’ve been meaning to try a probiotic, and there was one brand people recommended over and over again. u4® offers probiotics that are gluten free, soy free, preservative free, and support both digestive and immune health*. My goal? They have a whole line of products, and I’m loving the @up4probiotics Probiotics Gummies + Prebiotics with vitamin C boost! Head in-store to @Target from 9/23 – 10/6 and Buy 1, Get a $5.00 Gift Card for Target®! 💕Can I get a double tap if you seem to never take family photos?💕 . Honestly, you see a whole lot of me and Lydia around here and not a whole lot of all of us. So much so, that more than once people have asked if Lydia’s dad lives with us. The truth is, our schedules are anything but traditional. I work a very set teaching schedule each day, and take care of blog stuff before and after work (usually with Lydia along for the ride). My husband is a professional musician who teaches at the high school and college level (often afternoons, evenings and weekends) and he also does studio recording (like the music you hear in the background on tv shows and in movies)…..and that is often in the late afternoon or evening. So the time to take family photos? Tends to be slim. . This photo is even more special because it has all of us, at Lydia’s favorite place. Through a scheduling miracle, all three of us were able to attend the Disneyland Halloween event we went to last month. We all spent the night at the Grand Californian (a bucket list item for all Disneyland fans), we met Vampirina, we rode the Haunted Mansion about a million times, and we even got family photos taken. It was the perfect staycation, and I’m so glad we got it documented. #halloweentime #disneyland
💪🏻 Strong and confident women…….may we be them…..so that we can raise them.💪🏻 . Did you see my long winded chat on IG stories last night? Honestly, my heart has been heavy the last few weeks. I feel like our current climate is telling our daughters that their voices are insignificant. I worry that my daughter will feel unheard, unimportant, and as if she can’t speak up. And that? Is exactly the opposite of what I want for her (or any of our children). . I decided I needed to do SOMETHING. Even something small or simple. And I found this old list I wrote my first year of teaching. In tough moments, I needed a script. Things to say to children when they felt unheard, insignificant or undervalued. And man, did it remind me of how the words we use with our children can make change. Slow, steady, significant change. I put the list up on my blog (you can read it via the link in my profile)……..but I also wanted to ask you HERE: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP YOUR CHILDREN FEEL EMPOWERED? Are you reading books? Making plans? Helping others? Writing letters? Leave your suggestions in the comments, I think we could all use a few more ideas right now!
