Most people feel so much better when they're around their pets? It's true! Spending time with your dog or any other animal can have a positive impact on your mood and your health. Pets can be calming stress fighters. • At the University Of Miami, they found that pet owners, on average, were better off than non-pet owners, especially when they have a higher quality relationship with their pets. What makes a meaningful relationship, varies from person to person. • For some active people, that includes playing ball, or frisbee in the park. For others who can't get outside, just petting your dog can help you feel connected. • People with pets are generally happier, more trusting, and less lonely than those who don't have pets. They also visit the doctor less often for minor problems. One reason for that may be that your pet gives you a sense of belonging and meaning. You feel like you have greater control of your life. • . .

A large number of public health messages over the past century have focused on the dangers of too much sun exposure, such as aging, skin cancer and DNA damage. However, in reality, today's science tells us that exposure to the ultra violet radiation (UVR) in sunlight has many beneficial effects on human health. Most people are aware of the impact of sun exposure on Vitamin D production, which is a very important factor. However, there is a host of other health benefits that have been overlooked in the debate over how much sun is necessary for optimal health. Sun Exposure Decreases Risk Of Dying In southern Swden, there was a 2X increased risk of dying among those who avoided sun exposure compared with the highest sun exposure group. Nonsmokers who avoided sun exposure had a life expectancy similar to smokers in the highest sun exposure group, indicating that avoidance of sun exposure is a risk factor for death of a similar magnitude as smoking. Sun Exposure Sets Circadian Rhythm Studies published in the 70's showed that part of the brain (the hypothalamus), the suprachiasmatic nucleas (SCN), functions as the core circadian pacemaker in mammals. Basically, the SCN helps your body tell the time of the day. Sun Exposure May Protect Against Cancer Although skin cancer has been associated with too much UVR, especially in areas of the world with damaged ozone layer, a number of cancers could could result from little sun. Those who live in places with less sun are at higher risk of dying from breast, ovarian, colon, pancreatic, prostate, and other cancers. There are more benefits on how the sun improves our quality of health, just remember, if you decide to stay in the sun too long, make sure to wear sunblock. . .

Drinking water helps maintain the balance of body fluids. Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of salive, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. • Water Can Also Control Calories • For years, dieters have been drinking a lot of water as a weight loss strategy. While water doesn't have any magical effect on weight loss, substituting it for higher calorie beverages can certainly help. • Water Energize Muscles • Cells that don't maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel, which can result in muscle fatigue. When muscle cells don't have adequate fluids, they don't work as well and performance can suffer. • Water Keeps The Skin Looking Good • Your skin contains plenty of water, and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. But don't expect over hydration to erase wrinkles or fine lines. Dehydration makes your skin look more dry and wrinkled, which can improve with proper hydration. But once you are adequately hydrated, the kidneys take over the excrete excess fluids. • You can also help lock moisture into your skin by using moisturizer, which creates a physical barrier to keep moisture in. •

Why It's Important To Workout Shoulders Shoulder muscles is incorporated into every upper body exercise. If your arms are moving, that movement is occurring along the joints that compromise the shoulder. Bench presses, dips, overhead presses, and anything else involving your arms depend on healthy shoulders and good scapular function. • For shoulder joints to stay mobile and healthy, they almost rely on the proper function of the scapula. The true key to shoulder mobility is scapular stability. You need strong shoulder blades. You need a foundation. • The shoulder is a tricky joint because it has to provide adequate stability while maintaining full mobility to prevent injury and maximize function and performance. If you look at yourself in the mirror and wave your arms around, you will see. • Always make sure that you have a workout that includes training the shoulders, you will be surprised on how your balance and posture improves. • •

Why Happiness Is Good For Your Health A review of more than 200 studies found that positive psychological well-being is linked with a lower risk of heart disease, as well as lower blood pressure, normal body weight, and healthier blood fat profiles. Further, among those 60 and over, feelings of happiness and enjoyment associated with improved mobility and a lower risk of developing a disability over an eight-year period. It's even been scientifically shown that happiness can alter your genes. A team of researchers at UCLA showed that people with a deep sense of happiness and well-being had lower levels of inflammatory gene expression and stronger antiviral and anitbody responses. This falls into the realm of epigenetics, changing the way your genes function by turning them off and on. In additon, it appears people who are hapy are less impacted by everyday stressors, and this ability to deflect stress is responsible for many of the gains to their health. Past reserach has found that positive emotions, including being happy, lively, and calm appear to play a role in immune function. One study found that when happy people are exposed to cold and flu viruses, they're less likely to get sick and , if they do, exhibit fewer symptoms. • •
