Corinth canal!! The Isthmus of Corinth is a narrow strip of land that unites Central Greece with the Peloponnese, while the canal that has been opened to it joins the Saronic Gulf with the Corinthian Gulf. It is about 6 km long and the narrowest point is where the Corinth Canal has been built. Source:@wikipedia ◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾ Tag & follow : ◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾ ◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾ Follow us:@my_travelimages Tag us: ◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾◾

Uspenski Cathedral  is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral in  Helsinki, Finland, and main cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Finland, dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary). Its name comes from the Old Church Slavonic word uspenie, which denotes the Dormition. Designed by the Russian  architect Aleksey Gornostayev (1808–1862). Esplanade Park - the green heart of Helsinki ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️ Esplanadi colloquially known as Espa, is an esplanade and urban park in downtown  Helsinki, Finland, situated between the  Erottaja square and the Market Square. It is bordered on its northern and southern sides by the Pohjoisesplanadi (North Esplanadi) and Eteläesplanadi (South Esplanadi) streets, respectively.  Aleksanterinkatu runs parallel to Esplanadi. Designed by the architect Carl Ludwig Engel, the park was originally opened in 1818. The eastern end of the park houses the Kappeli restaurant, which opened in 1867. In front of the restaurant is an outdoor stage, which hosts numerous live music performances. Centered in the park is a statue of Johan Ludwig Runeberg by his son Walter Runeberg. Lock your love!!! Colour does not matter!!!! ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️ If you pass the market square next to the South Harbour (where I would recommend buying some delicious Finnish bread and cakes for lunch) and walk in the direction of the Katajanokka neighbourhood, you’ll find the restaurant ‘Ravintola Sipuli’, which translates literally to ‘Restaurant Onion’. Right in front of this and in something of a contrast is the famous bridge of love. These bridges have become popular in recent years after an Italian movie showed a couple securing a padlock to a bridge and throwing the key in the river, an act meant to symbolise the strength of their love. Whereas many cities have banned these ‘love locks’ Helsinki welcomes them, and the  Public Works Department of Helsinki is said to have extended well-wishes to any couple who choose to affirm their devotion to each other in this way. How romantic! Take a lock with you to add to the collection and leave a symbol of your love in Finland. A short walk from the bridge one can also visit the impressive and lavishly decorated Uspenski Russian Orthodox Cathdral. The Senate Square presents Carl Ludvig Engel's architecture as a unique all" at Helsinki Senate Square - 1857977650498522616

The Senate Square ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️ The Senate Square presents Carl Ludvig Engel's architecture as a unique allegory of political, religious, scientific and commercial powers in the centre of Helsinki. Senate Square and its surroundings make up the oldest part of central Helsinki. Landmarks and famous buildings surrounding the square are the Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, main building of the University of Helsinki, and Sederholm House (Finnish: Sederholmin talo), the oldest building of central Helsinki dating from 1757. A statue of Emperor Alexander II is located in the center of the square. The statue, erected in 1894, was built to commemorate his re-establishment of the Diet of Finland in 1863 as well as his initiation of several reforms that increased Finland's autonomy from Russia. The statue comprises Alexander on a pedestal surrounded by figures representing law, culture, and peasants. The sculptor was Walter Runeberg. During the Russification of Finland from 1899 onwards, the statue became a symbol of quiet resistance, with people protesting against the decrees of Nicholas II by leaving flowers at the foot of the statue of his grandfather. After Finland's independence in 1917, demands were made to remove the statue. Later, it was suggested to replace it with the equestrian statue of Mannerheim currently located on Mannerheimintie in front of the Kiasma museum. Nothing came of either of these suggestions, and today the statue is one of the major tourist landmarks of the city and a reminder of Finland's close relationship with Imperial Russia.
