If you think back over your life then I’m willing to bet that the years when you were at your happiest and most carefree weren’t the years in which you learnt the most about yourself, the world or others. It’s those big, painful, long drawn out periods of time when we come to fully understand the important things in life. Sitting for a while in the extreme discomfort of a painful experience isn’t something we should block out or distract ourselves from; it’s a vital part of our process of self-development and learning. ::: When we are unable to change our situation, pain challenges us to change ourselves. In my opinion, that’s the most important life skill that anyone could ever learn. ::: How do you manage painful experiences and what have they taught you about yourself? (Sorry for such a heavy one today!!) 💛🔆 ::: ::: ::: :::

On Tuesday we received the news we had been hoping and praying for when my specialist oncologist in the UK reviewed all of my latest results and gave me a definitive all clear!! He can not say for certain that I’m free of cancer altogether but he put our minds at rest by telling us that the chances of my tumour recurring or any other complications over a 20 year period are as small as 5%!!! ::: 8 months after my first diagnosis, and approximately 20 after I first contracted this horrendous disease and my life has changed forever. There’s so much I’ve had to overcome and so many life lessons I’ve had to learn in a short space of time, and even though it still pains me to think about what I went through, I know that everything that happened to me last year was for my ultimate good. I thank God every day for this. ::: To the other 17 million people out there that were diagnosed with cancer in 2018, I see you. Please keep believing that better days are coming. You are so incredibly brave and you are NOT ALONE! If you feel like you are, please reach out, I’m just on the other end of a DM. 💛🔆 ::: ::: ::: :::

Always take the scenic route. ::: This is my favourite walk near to my mum’s because no matter what the weather’s like it’s always so peaceful and beautiful. In the background you can see the church where Mr 🔆 and I got married! ::: Do you have a favourite view in the world that I should add to my bucket list? 🔆 ::: ::: :::

A week ago, I was writing my new year’s intentions and struggling. It’s not that I didn’t know where I wanted to get to or even how to get there, it’s just that when looking back over the past few weeks I couldn’t remember a single day when I hadn’t cried and I just didn’t have either the strength or the self-belief to think I was capable of achieving what I wanted to achieve. ::: Whether you’re in a similar position to me, or in a much better place, I think it’s important not to put too much pressure on yourself to start ticking off objectives too soon. Yes, it might be the first week of January and an inspiring time to make a change but that doesn’t mean you have to achieve that change all at once. Slow down, admire the view, look at how far you’ve already come and remember you still have 358 full days to achieve your wildest 2019 dreams. ::: A lot can happen in a year, but even more will come to you if you ease off the gas and allow yourself to flow with it. Change is not a hard stop, it’s a process; I plan on doing everything I can to enjoy the journey towards building super strong foundations before I even think about laying that first brick. 🔆 ::: ::: :::

My mini explorer is loving the fresh air of the Peak District and our daily country walks. The great outdoors also fuels her imagination and we are having the best conversations! She’s such an outdoor girl at heart that whenever we’re here I question why we live in a country where you can barely step outside for half of the year! I’m also finding parenting so much easier - less time spent working out how to keep her entertained and more time simply enjoying each other’s company. ::: Parents, do you prefer time spent indoors or outdoors with your children? Do you have any tips for me for keeping her occupied (and me sane!) once things start to heat up again in Doha and we have to retreat indoors once more? 🔆 ::: ::: ::: :::

Goodbye 2018 and HELLO 2019! I’ve been waiting a long time for you. Here are a few things I learned the hard way in 2018 (continued in comments): 🔆 You don’t ever fully appreciate good health until you don’t have it any more. 🔆 Cancer is a big unknown and being diagnosed with this dreadful disease is terrifying. 🔆 But when it happens, much like with any major trauma in life, amazing people just appear as if from nowhere to help you through it all. I owe these people so much (you know who you are). 🔆 Miscarriage is heartbreaking whenever it happens - whether it’s 3 weeks in or 30 weeks in. Losing a baby is losing a baby. 🔆 Grief can rear its ugly head at any moment, without warning. The only way to cope is to let it flow through you and embrace your emotions until they subside again. 🔆 If you speak about these things openly on social media, you can help many but there are also people who won’t agree with it. Don’t let this stop you from speaking your truth. It’s strong to be vulnerable. 🔆 Humans have a predisposition to judge each other, constantly. This is easy because it feeds the ego and requires no accountability or empathy. However, letting go of judgement and replacing it with understanding will set you free. 🔆 Words hold a special kind of magic, which can be used for good or for evil. The choice lies with you. 🔆 Letting go is essential to your inner growth. 🔆 Your thoughts aren’t you. They can only control you if you let them. 🔆 More in comments... ::: ::: :::

‘Tis the season to be jolly. But if these past few months have taught me anything, it’s that you can’t be truly happy until you build up your inner backing for yourself and everything you have to offer. Invest in yourself first so that you have the strength to invest in others. Love yourself first so that have the capacity love others equally. Give thanks to yourself for all of your achievements, because you tackled 2018 in the best way you knew how to. Apologise to yourself for the times you let yourself down by believing in your own negative self-talk. Forgive yourself for the nights that you cried yourself to sleep without giving yourself adequate comfort. They say charity begins at home, and practice makes perfect. It’s the season of giving, and there’s no time like the present. 💛☀️ ::: ::: ::: ::: :::

We’re currently on day 11 of and Sophia is loving selecting a new book to read each day in the lead up to Christmas from our big box under the tree! ::: Of course, bookmas wouldn’t be the same without snuggly, sparkly Christmas jumpers and dresses (ours are from the new collection @leftiesofficial) ::: What are your favourite advent or Christmas traditions? I LOVE that Sophia is finally old enough to really understand what Christmas is all about and get excited along with me! We have a tradition in our house where we get dressed up in Christmassy clothes, pop the Michael Bublé Christmas album on full volume to get us in a festive mood while we decorate the tree. ::: This year’s cosy festive outfits were from @leftiesofficial where they have a range of garments to choose from in this season’s checks and wintery hues. I wouldn’t mind Sophia’s gorgeous dress in my size! AD ::: ::: ::: :::
