Þetta er uppáhalds bókabúðin mín í Reykjavík. Ég get ekki beðið að heimsækja aftur næsta vika. Ég þarf meira bækur! 😁📚
Happy Leif Erikson Day! 🙂 Right in front of the Hallgrímskirkja is the statue of Leifur Eiríksson, the first European to make it to America—500 years before Christopher Columbus. This statue is alwaaays surrounded by tourists (like me 🙂); it was a gift from the U.S. to commemorate the 1000 year anniversary of Alþingi, Iceland’s parliament. 🇮🇸
Of gott fyrir orð. Ég er að fara að ganga hér og sjá þetta frábær staður í nokkrar daga.
Mig dreymir alltaf um þennan stað. I also keep having a dream that the Hallgrímskirkja just magically appears in downtown Salt Lake City. 🤔
When I think of fall, I always think of the Iowa State University campanile—I have so many happy memories walking across central campus with a cool fall breeze and the sound of the campanile bells guiding me to class. (Truly, ISU is everything you’d imagine or hope for a college campus to be in the fall.) I’m grateful that I’ve made it back to Ames a couple times since finishing my grad program there (always over Labor Day weekend, it seems); I think I’m in need of another campus visit. 😊❤️💛
I saw Mitjili Napanangka Gibson's “Wilkinkarra” in Seattle last year, and I still often think of her work. The pinks, oranges, and yellows all together—magical.
Icelanders eru ekki the biggest fans of these gems, en ég er. Ég var svo hamingjusamur þegar ég sá þetta fjólublá blóm. 🙃
All of this rain we got in Salt Lake today made me think back to the last rainstorm I experienced—last month in Reykjavík (most everyday!). 😁 On one particularly rainy afternoon, I spent a bit of time reading in this lovely library, which happens to be both the National and University Library of Iceland. (Apparently visiting college campuses and libraries on vacay is my norm.)
Bagpipes and lots of regalia. Fall semester has arrived. The best part of the alumni board retreat is always convocation. 😊
(What do you call a mix of enska og íslensku? Ég veit ekki, en það er my brain lately. 🙃) Einmitt einn mánuður ago I hopped on a flugvél ✈️ to Reykjavík. I spent my first sumar morgunn ganga by the harbor and my hjarta melted a bit þegar ég sá það 🇮🇸. 🤣😊 In other news, Í dag er Reykjavík’s birthday, svo til hamingju með afmælið, RVK! 🎉
Sjö mánuðum ago ég fór til Íslands og almost einn mánuður ago ég kom aftur. Today I had suuuch a good convo about the power of place with a new friend. She’s from Idaho and lived in the Middle East on and off (and fell in love with Arabic as I have with Icelandic). She made me feel less ridic with my infatuation with my fav country/language, and she even gave me pro-tips for learning íslensku. (She often repeats what people say to her in her head in Arabic). 🙌 So grateful for places and people that inspire and bring joy. (Also, ég miss snjór. ❄️)
