The first night on the wall was by far the coldest night of my life... @honngy ’s too. The portaledge was slightly wet from rapping in the melting snow and my tiny half pad didn't help keep my lower body warm enough, I shivered all night long and maybe logged a single hour of sleep. @thenorthface@thenorthface_climb

We woke up to perfect blue skies and snow. LOTS of snow, heavy snow, snow that wasn't going to melt within a couple of hours. We were puzzled about what to do. Should we wait another day for it to melt? Should we start to rap the wall in the snow? Can we stay dry?! @mattsegal slowly started to pack the haul bags up with the idea that we would make a decision about what moves we would make by mid day. At high noon, we collectively made the decision to rap the wall to pitch 18 so we could at least start to get established on the wall. @thenorthface@thenorthface_climb

It rained all night. We woke up the next morning and the rain continued to pour, so we huddled into one tent and played monopoly deal, ate lots of haribo flavors and told stories. The rain eventually came to a stop and it got colder and colder bringing sleet, which turned into snow as the hours went on. @thenorthface_climb@thenorthface

Don Fernando sending @honngy@mattsegal and I on our way to El Gigante. We planned to be dropped off on Sunday, and picked up one week later the following Sunday. He asked us if we were certain about the pick up day, since most people only take 3-4 days to climb the wall. We told him we were sure because of the daunting weather forecast that was predicting 1-3 inches of snow the very next day. We didn't believe it would actually snow that much but wanted to be prepared for a weather delay if it did. It's about a 1.5 hour hike/scramble to the top of the cliff from the drop off point and our bags were SO heavy. Climbing gear, 70ish liters of water, food, tents, sleeping bags, pads, clothes and booze weighed us down and forced us to make two trips. @thenorthface_climb@thenorthface

My time in mexico this winter was beyond special. Quesadillas and tequila filled my stomach every night, and I’ve brought home some of the best memories of my life to hold on to. Thanks for the hospitality, amazing friends, and the partners I got to share the rope and so many smiles with. @thenorthface@hannahlily17@a.little.wall.flower@jacobcookclimbs@tony.mclane@matt_berry@imrickvancebitch@danieljnoll@drew_putterman@walterchiarella@acarterclark@potrero_chico_accommodations@leostacopotrero@laposadaenelpotrerochico@alexhillclimb@guadarramajoe edit by @neilson.ben

300 years. That's how long they say it may take for Joshua Tree to recover from damage caused by visitors during the longest-ever government shutdown.⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Hopefully the National Park Service get's their way on the next one. ⁣⠀ - “If the government doesn’t fund or staff the parks appropriately, then they should just close the parks to protect the parks and protect the people.”
