💕 great words from @cumulus.songs 💕 Thank you!!! ・・・ “I love people who have had abortions.” I love people who have had abortions. This is an absolute truth. Yesterday, on a ride share drive to a pro choice rally, my male driver asked me if I was in favor of a woman choosing to have a child as much as I was in favor of abortion. I was simultaneously shocked and not shocked at the question. I am pro all of the options. I am pro each individual making the decision that fits their needs best. I am pro education and open dialogue and supporting their choice, emphatically. I think perhaps because anti-choice rhetoric leaves so little room for agency, people unfamiliar with this dialogue assume that to be pro-choice is to push an agenda onto a body in the same way, yet it is the very thing we are fighting against. We are fighting a ban on choices. We are fighting a ban on freedom. We are fighting an attempt to control non-cis-male-bodies. If at all it ever gets overwhelming, a phrase that we can all go back to is “I love people that have had abortions” because I can guarantee you do. Listen to the women and people around you, and you will learn you do know someone who has gone through it. Be open and ready to hear experiences that were easy, difficult, scary, relieving, empowering, every feeling that is possible because this choice will never be the same for everyone, but it’s a choice that everyone has the right to make and that we need to keep protecting, always. (Thank you @shoutyourabortion for this phrase & shirt & all of the work you do to destigmatize this normal and vital medical procedure.)

“If I had not terminated my pregnancy I would have had a child with an abusive, controlling man. I’d have never moved to Seattle and met my husband, which was the single greatest thing to ever happen to me. I’d not be carrying our child. My second child. A child we will bring into a happy, healthy family. An environment of love and not chaos. Parents who respect and care for each other. Our neighbor to the north Georgia just became the sixth state to pass the six week abortion ban. At five weeks, two days I found out I had to make a decision about what to do with the future of my family. The state of Georgia is saying that I should have made that life altering decision in five days to reach their six week ban. Many women get past six weeks before even knowing they are pregnant. …I can’t keep my mouth shut anymore. One in four women have made this decision and I am one of them. So now you know someone who’s had an abortion. Now you have a decision to make about me. Does your opinion of me change? Am I less of a good person than I was an hour ago? Less of a mother or a wife? Less of a human being? Do deserve less happiness?” 💚 Full Story here: https://shoutyourabortion.com/writing/another-one-in-four/ 💕

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii guess what 💕 @ameliamaris ・・・ Framing abortion as a women’s issue is not going well. First off, people of all genders have abortions and we have got to stop creating progressive movements which leave people behind! Second, this approach has completely let cis dudes off the hook, and the silence from y’all is...well, even more deafening than usual. Look, we live in a society where women are responsible for birth control and blamed for their pregnancies and blamed for their abortions and then blamed if they have a kid while poor/without a man. So like...men have been let off the hook in this conversation, but that’s just because women get blamed for everything, and just because y’all have been getting a pass doesn’t mean you should Homer Simpson your way into the hedge just because you can. ALSO: THIS IS ALL HAPPENING BECAUSE OF YOUR JIZZZZZZZZZ! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ . Abortion is a fundamental human rights issue and a justice issue that effects every single member of society. We cannot eradicate poverty, dismantle white supremacy or address gender inequality without universal abortion access. Every single one of our lives has been shaped in positive, healthy, invisible ways by abortion. That’s why @shoutyourabortion + @ballsarethenewtits are launching a brand new video series where we talk to cis men and AMAB people about abortion! Personal experience isn’t required, although we definitely DO want to talk to folks who have knocked somebody up and have their permission to speak on it. We are mostly just interested in having a chat about how you relate to the issue, and hopefully illustrating that dudes *can* in fact talk about abortion. Because if you care about justice, abortion is your issue. And if you care about abortion, this moment is an all hands on deck moment. We need to hear you! Email projects@shoutyourabortion.com for more info ♥️ TY to @nathanvesheccoandfriends for this sweet sweet pic 😍

“I was 19 years old when I had my first abortion. It was in Seattle and it was with a man who accompanied me to the clinic in full support of the decision I have made but ultimately we have made together. This was a man who was also battling his own demons with drinking and drug use. We were broke – I was in art school, he was working in a bakery. I later moved to Montana with him and that was where I had some awakening and decided the life I was living wasn’t the life I was meant to live. We vowed, together, to clean up and stop what we were doing. But I came home one night after work and found him and his buddies snorting cocaine in our kitchen. I left. Leaving that world so far behind me. Fast forward to today almost 20 years later – 20 years after my abortion. I am a nurse. I was a high school science teacher. I was a volunteer at a needle exchange clinic. I was a mentor. I was an advocate for those who didn’t have the golden upbringing that so many do. I am and will always be empathetic. …I would not be where I am today had I of had that child. I want you to think about what I was like when I was 19 years old. That child would’ve grown up inundated in a life of drugs and alcohol – the very same environment I grew up in. Sometimes when we choose to have an abortion, we are also saving a life and sometimes that life is our own.” Teadthe full story online here: https://shoutyourabortion.com/writing/dear-ms-kay-ivey/ 💚

Whoever has a uterus and ability to conceive can get pregnant and decide they don’t want to continue their pregnancy! They need access and have abortions. We should remember about that not only on but everyday! ❤️

“...I was lucky. I had the support of most of the people who mattered to me—with the exception of my ex-husband and a former friend who’d told me that God wouldn’t love me anymore. My chosen family understood and held me when I needed it most. The person who was my rock during that difficult time is still my rock today, and our love for each other is deeper and more brilliant than ever. But I was so lucky. People get abortions for all sorts of reasons, but one thing unites us: a desire to regulate our own bodies, to shape our own futures. My abortions were difficult because of the circumstances surrounding them. But my abortions made me strong. They were catalysts to my realizing that I had agency, that I could choose my path, that I was the one who knew myself and what I wanted best. They taught me that I am a force, and they made me feel free. Because I was able to control my body, my life has changed for the better. I currently volunteer with a local nonprofit that helps people seeking abortions in Texas get to their appointments. People sometimes come from hours away, needing rides, financial support, and someplace safe to stay overnight in order to comply with the waiting period in Texas. It’s not that I want everyone to have an abortion; I want everyone to be able to make that decision for themselves. I feel an affinity for others who have faced the absurd stigma associated with choosing one’s own health and life over an unwanted pregnancy, and those who chose to respect themselves despite being told they don’t deserve respect. And I am so sad and angry for the people who don’t have that opportunity. No one knows what is right for your body and your future except you.” Emily Elizabeth in the SYA book.
