a love note to our planet, from The Spirit Almanac: “We’ve lost sight of the reciprocity of it all, forgotten that we must show earth the same love that she has so selflessly shown us. Reminders of our greed now exist at every turn: extreme storms, wildfires, and dead zones all fueled by climate change. We have clogged her air, polluted her water, and destroyed her grandeur in an indomitable quest for something we’ll never even find—happiness by way of the material. The great irony is that true joy comes from working with the earth, not against her. It comes from enjoying the gifts she has to offer instead of destroying them to make gifts of our own.” today, take a moment to get outside and connect with a piece of nature that you love. then, if you are able, go donate to @nature_org, @nrdc_org , @rainforestalliance, @350org, or any other organization fighting to preserve mother nature’s gifts. illustration by @edey_ via @spiritalmanac

agitation, frustration, anger — believe it or not, spring isn’t all daisies and roses. growth is hard work and often takes serious agitation to realize, like the beautiful natural pearl. a pearl starts as a parasite (!) or grain of sand that irritates the oyster into creating a fluid called “nacre,” that protects the of the mollusk and also gives pearls their signature luster. it can take up to three years to produce a pearl ... remember that next time the same problem surfaces more than once. it’s teaching something that will, without a doubt, yield a worthwhile pearl of wisdom 🐚🌾 rg @aeacollection

fractals are patterns that happen at all different scales, and the leaves of plants are a prime example. research continues to show that looking at these natural patterns can put us in a “wakefully relaxed” state. yet another reason the coming of spring and return of greenery can feel soothing but invigorating at the same time 🌱 photo by @haarkon_

in a world as chaotic as ever, “self-care” is what we’re all after. with spirit almanac, we wanted to infuse the self-care conversation with more meaning, because it’s so easy to just go through the motions of a yoga class or face mask without really rooting or recharging. emma was just listening to a recent interview with @elanakilkenny and she summed it up beautifully: “ask if you’re using self-care to run away from something, or lean into something.” here’s to leaning into something glorious today 🌞 art by @mab.rose

anyone else experience lots of resistance coming out of retrograde and going into today’s new moon? the dark skies ask us to release something that needs letting go, but so often WE are the reason we’re stuck and holding on. this short list journaling exercise can help shake off the cobwebs and bring you a little closer to what you’re seeking and how you want to feel. 1. think of something heavy you’ve been holding on to, something you’d like to release. it could be the idea that you’re not enough, regrets about the past, a physical ailment. 2. make a list that answers why you’re still holding on, or what you were getting from holding on. 3. take a look at your answers — how many of them are old thought patterns and mental habits? how many of them are truly circumstantial? 4. without judgment, notice what you see here. 5. pick one habit to commit to and change until the next new moon. maybe you want to stop catastrophizing. perhaps you’re using unkind words in dialogue with the self or other, or maybe you’re avoiding feelings that need to be heard. no matter where you land, be so, so gentle with this new incarnation of yourself. changes take time and trial to stick, but the dual spring and new moon energies are allies 🌚 rg @animamundiherbals

what is the goal of your personal practice? in the spirit almanac, ritual is celebrated as a way of connecting to the self, illuminating the magic that’s hard to see in the day to day. as an exercise in aligning with the spring season, do something today that’s out of the ordinary for you. it can be as simple as cracking open a new book, exploring a new way to work or home, cooking up a new recipe, or opening up the spirit almanac and trying a new ritual. according to traditional Chinese medicine theory, the prominent emotions that arise in the spring are anger and frustration. don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone with some intentional, gentle agitation — especially if you’re feeling stale or stuck. art by @emilio_villalba

springtime altar building is one of our favorite ways to welcome the new season. collect elements from your surroundings and from nature to add to your altar, and consider removing any objects connected to the winter season (for now). artifacts that speak to spring include: - greens, both the color and green leaves - symbols of fertility, like fertility belts, egg-shaped sculptures, drawings or artwork of fertility goddesses, ripe fruits, or - blossoms - holy, infused, or blessed water - driftwood, branches, cedarwood, or anything made of wood that has meaning to you 🌷🌈🦋🌱🥬 painting by jose manuel ballester

in the days following the full moon and now squarely in the season of renewal, it’s a good time to check in. this sunday’s writing prompt is borrowed from @changeofair, a project near and dear to our hearts. if you’re someone who had / has drug or alcohol addicted parents, or you struggle with personal boundaries, or notice co-dependent tendencies, check them out. we’re making a promise to listen and act this spring. who is with us? 🌈 🌸 🌷

happy spring, happy equinox! in winter, we go inward—we explore our own inner landscapes, reconnect to our personal needs, animal, emotional, and spiritual. after this period of deep rest and intense reflection, spring seems to arrive in the knick of time. spring is a time for cleansing and making space for all that is to come this year. wash away the heaviness of winter, declutter your belongings, add more greens to your diet, and listen to what creative projects you’re being called to do. in the next few weeks we’ll be posting rituals and practical exercises that help you sync with the energy of spring 🌱 here’s to feeling light and free 🧚🏽‍♀️ rg @freakebana

our bodies are the keepers of our experiences. ritual helps us unlock, keep, meet, and see the parts of ourselves that may be causing undue stress. with a daily practice (of any kind), you give yourself an opportunity to get to know them — and after some time, they’re not as big or stressful or surprising. what does your practice look like these days? share below 💙 artist unknown
